THE FALL OF THE PROUD GIANT By: Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture: Isaiah 2:12
"For the Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled)."

INTRODUCTION
The sovereignty of God over nations and rulers is undeniable. Throughout history, God has raised up kingdoms and brought them down according to His divine will. When a nation or ruler becomes consumed by pride, greed, and oppression, disregarding the cries of the innocent and trampling upon the weak, the justice of God eventually intervenes. The great empires of the past that once seemed indestructible fell under the weight of their own arrogance and rebellion against God.
This sermon explores the divine judgment that awaits the so-called "giants"—nations and rulers who have built their dominance on corruption, bloodshed, and oppression. It is a warning that no power, no kingdom, no leader, no nation can stand against the sovereignty of the Almighty. When the cries of the righteous reach the heavens, God Himself moves to bring judgment upon the wicked.

THE GIANT SWOLLEN WITH PRIDE
Proverbs 16:18
"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."
The rise of many powerful nations has been accompanied by a dangerous arrogance. They see themselves as untouchable, too powerful to be challenged. Like the Babylonian kings of old, they take pride in their own achievements, forgetting that their strength is only permitted by the will of God.
This pride leads to the enslavement of the poor, the oppression of the weak, and the persecution of those who stand for righteousness. But just as God humbled Nebuchadnezzar and made him like a beast of the field, so too shall He humble all those who lift themselves above His authority.

THE CRY OF THE INNOCENT: THE CAUSE OF GOD'S WRATH
Revelation 6:10
"They called out in a loud voice, 'How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?'"
There is a divine response to the shedding of innocent blood. Every tear, every cry, every groan of the righteous who suffer under oppressive regimes reaches the throne of God. He is a just God who does not overlook injustice. When a nation spills innocent blood for the sake of power and control, it invites divine wrath upon itself.
Throughout history, those who have murdered prophets, saints, and the righteous for their faith in God have met disastrous ends. This is a reminder that no power that stands against God’s people will go unpunished.

THE FALL OF THE ARROGANT: GOD'S JUDGMENT IS SURE
Jeremiah 50:31-32
"See, I am against you, you arrogant one, declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty, for your day has come, the time for you to be punished. The arrogant one will stumble and fall and no one will help her up; I will kindle a fire in her towns that will consume all who are around her."
When nations become obsessed with wealth, greed, and power, believing they are invincible, they set themselves up for destruction. The very greed that drives them to exploit others becomes their downfall. The foundations of their wealth and power begin to crumble, and all that seemed secure is suddenly lost.
God will bring down the mighty who refuse to acknowledge Him. No amount of economic strength, military power, or political influence can save those whom God has determined to humble.

THE COMING FAMINE AND DESOLATION
Amos 8:11
"The days are coming, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord."
Beyond economic and physical destruction, the greatest judgment upon a nation is the withdrawal of God's word. When leaders and people reject God, He allows them to wallow in their own delusions until they are consumed. The famine of truth, righteousness, and wisdom leads to total collapse, both spiritually and physically.

SUMMARY
The fate of arrogant nations and leaders is sealed in the hands of God. Pride, greed, and oppression invite divine judgment. Those who build their empires on bloodshed and injustice will eventually be brought low. No nation, no leader, no system is above the justice of God.

CONCLUSION
The warning has been given: The giants of this world will be humbled. God will not be mocked, and He will execute judgment in His time. Let those who have ears to hear, listen. Let those who have been blinded by power and greed, repent before it is too late.

CALL TO ACTION
This is a time of self-examination. If you are part of a system of injustice, repent. If you have been living in pride and greed, turn back to God. If you have been oppressed, take courage, for the Lord sees your suffering and He will avenge. Align yourself with righteousness, for the days of judgment are near.

FINAL WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT
Isaiah 40:31
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Though the world may be filled with darkness, those who trust in the Lord will stand firm. He is our refuge, our strong tower, and our eternal hope. Stand in righteousness, and He will uphold you.

SALVATION PRAYER
If you have not yet given your life to Jesus Christ, now is the time. Pray this prayer with sincerity:
"Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I need your mercy. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again. I repent of my sins and surrender my life to You. Jesus, come into my heart, be my Lord and Savior. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and lead me in Your ways. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen."
