The Wrath of God Against the Rebellious: A Call to Repentance By Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture:

Romans 2:5 – But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.

Introduction:

In these perilous times, many have turned away from the living God, choosing their own ways and abandoning His guidance. The world is filled with pride, rebellion, and stubbornness, as men continually reject the mercy and grace of God. While some may believe they have escaped divine justice, the truth remains that God will not be mocked. His righteous judgment is certain, and His wrath is being revealed against the disobedient and the proud. This teaching serves as a reminder that those who continue in their rebellion will face God's anger, but for those who walk in His mercy, there is hope.

The Time of God's Wrath Has Come

God has been patient with mankind, continually calling them to repentance. Yet, many have rejected His ways and chosen the path of pride and sin. Isaiah 59:1-2 states, "Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." Those who refuse to heed His call will face His judgment, for He is a God of justice.

Pride and Rebellion Lead to Destruction

When men elevate themselves above God and reject His sovereignty, they become enemies of the Creator. Their pride blinds them to the truth, and they continue to indulge in sin. Proverbs 16:18 warns, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." The consequences of pride are inevitable—those who exalt themselves will be humbled by God. He will bring down the proud, and they will face the results of their choices.

God's Mercy and Judgment Are Not to Be Taken Lightly

While God is merciful and full of grace, He will not tolerate sin forever. Those who refuse to repent will experience the fullness of His wrath. Galatians 6:7 tells us, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." The time will come when God's mercy will run out, and His judgment will be poured out upon the rebellious. Yet, those who remain faithful to Him will receive His mercy and protection.

God's Plan for Redemption Remains

Despite the rejection of many, God's plan for redemption remains unchanged. He desires that all would come to repentance and be saved. 2 Peter 3:9 reminds us, "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." While the rebellious may face judgment, there is still an opportunity for salvation through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

Summary:

In this generation, many are walking in pride, rebellion, and sin, rejecting the mercy of God. However, the time of God's judgment is near, and those who refuse to repent will face the consequences of their actions. God is calling His people to remain steadfast in righteousness, to walk in His light, and to trust in His justice. Though His mercy may seem distant, it is still available to those who turn to Him in humility and repentance.

Conclusion:

The wrath of God is real, and it is being revealed against the rebellious and proud. Let us not take His mercy for granted, but instead, walk in humility and obedience. For those who remain faithful, God promises to guide them in truth, light, and strength. His mercy is abundant, but His judgment is sure. We must choose wisely, for the path of righteousness leads to life, but the path of rebellion leads to destruction.
