The Spiritual War

Are you actively engaged in the spiritual war? First Timothy 6:12 instructs us to “Fight the good fight of faith.” The Bible often describes the Christian journey and mission in terms of combat. The Spirit of God compels us to be warriors in this battle.

Jesus Christ, our ultimate Commander and Captain, leads us not into temptation but into battle. He stands with us on the front lines as we confront our adversary. It is essential for believers to equip themselves with the full armor of God, as described in Ephesians 6:13-17.

This armor includes Truth, Righteousness, the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace, Faith, Salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Additionally, we are called to pray, prophesy, and preach (Ephesians 6:18-22).

The Battlefield

Our battlefield is the world. Revelation 11:15 tells us, “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ.” This future victory is assured if we remain faithful. God’s power will ultimately subdue all things to Himself (Ephesians 1:18-23 and Philippians 3:21).

From ancient times to the final consummation, the outcome of this spiritual warfare has been determined by God. Each generation must execute His will and power against satan and his demons. The result will be the complete overthrow of evil, with Righteousness, Truth, Justice, and Holiness prevailing in all of God’s domain.

Victory and Reward

Revelation 3:21 promises, “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne.” The victor will receive glory and honor.

This long battle, originating from the Garden of Eden, will eventually lead to the eternal Garden of God. After centuries of warfare, we will exchange our battle uniforms for white robes of righteousness (Revelation 7:14) and receive an incorruptible crown (I Corinthians 9:25; 2 Timothy 4:8).

Nature of Our Warfare

Our warfare is not carnal but spiritual (II Corinthians 10:3-6). Jesus declared in John 18:36, “My Kingdom is not of this world.” We do not fight for worldly gains but for eternal purposes. Despite the struggles and challenges here on earth, our fight is for eternal rewards.

Encouragement and Assurance

With confidence in Christ, we wage this spiritual war. Our Captain will triumphantly and gloriously finish the work He has begun in us and in the world.

Let us encourage one another in this certainty. The Battle Cry has been sounded, and the battlefield has been set. We are commissioned to destroy the spiritual strongholds of evil within ourselves and in the world.

There is a time for defense, but now is the time for offense. Christ commands us and will lead us to everlasting victory!
