The Deception of Entertainment By: Major. Frank Materu
Scripture Reference:
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.”(1 John 2:15, NIV)
Introduction:
God has not called His people to the deception of entertainment.
Instead, His people have allowed themselves to be swayed by worldly attractions because they did not remain vigilant in the Spirit.
Now, they are accustomed to entertainment, absorbing every lie and every deceit for the sake of amusement.
They have been drawn away from the truth.
As believers, we are urged to be vigilant and bind ourselves in truth, guarding our hearts so that we are not deceived.
Sadly, many have been led far from the truth, caught up in clever myths and deceptive stories.
Beware of the Trap of Entertainment:
Many believers are now caught in the web of entertainment, willing to do anything to indulge in it because it excites them.
Yet, we are warned not to intoxicate ourselves with empty amusements, for they can ultimately corrupt our souls.
Instead, we should remain alert in the Spirit, safeguarding the truth so that God may keep us from deception.
"Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober." (1 Thessalonians 5:6)
Called to Spiritual Warfare, Not Amusement:
God has not called His people to pursue entertainment; rather, He has called them to spiritual warfare. We are to pour ourselves into prayer and supplication before Him.
However, many who identify themselves as God’s people have been drawn away in this hour, taken captive by entertainment and ruled by it.
They chase after superficial thrills at the expense of their souls, ignoring the call to steadfastness and discipline in the faith.
"Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." (Ephesians 6:11)
The Emptiness of Showmanship:
We are living in a time and age when people demand entertainment. They have asked for spectacles, and now, they have them.
They desired diversions, distractions, and deception—and thus, they have their shows.
Yet, when they stand before God, what will they present? Nothing.
They have pursued vanity, chasing foolishness, and indulging in empty spectacles that do not honor God.
This obsession with entertainment has filled them with emptiness.
"For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God." (Luke 16:15)
Sorrow in Their Spectacles:
When people stand before God, their pursuit of entertainment will bring them to tears.
They will weep, wail, and lament, but it will be too late to turn back the clock or lessen the impact of their shows.
Their cherished entertainment, which they pursued so fervently, will now stand as evidence against them in the face of God’s wrath.
This same desire for spectacle will become part of their eternal suffering, symbolizing the pain and regret of their choices.
"There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out."(Luke 13:28)
A Call to Repentance:
In these times, when many are drawn to vanity and foolishness, God is calling His people back from the brink, urging them to abandon superficial amusements and return to Him.
Through a Revolution of Repentance, people can come to recognize the emptiness and foolishness of worldly entertainment and seek God once more.
This return to God leads to a new perspective, where amusement and showmanship lose their allure, replaced by a deep longing for God’s presence.
"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." (Acts 3:19)
Finding Fulfillment in God Alone:
When people are captivated by entertainment, God may allow them to have what they want—but at a cost.
Eventually, their desires will rule them, becoming their master and leading them astray.
But God is calling those who are bound by worldly shows to turn back to Him.
There will be a remnant that repents and returns, refusing to exchange their confidence in God for empty pleasures.
"For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" (Mark 8:36)
Conclusion:
The Living God is calling His people away from the deception of entertainment, into a life grounded in truth and spiritual integrity.
Unlike the transient allure of worldly shows, God offers lasting peace and purpose to those willing to listen and obey His call.
May we have ears to hear, hearts to discern, and the courage to turn from empty distractions to seek the true and eternal satisfaction that is found only in God.
"Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain."(1 Corinthians 15:58)
