How to Receive Life-Giving Teachings By Major Frank Materu
Introduction
In a world that often emphasizes material wealth and worldly success, it is essential to reflect on what truly constitutes life-giving teachings.
In 2 Timothy 4:1-6, we are urged to remain faithful, patient, and consistent in receiving and sharing the truth of God's Word. This is a call to embrace teachings that lead to spiritual growth and transformation, even in the midst of challenges and trials.
Receiving the Life-Giving Word
2 Timothy 4:5: “But you, be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
Every day presents us with an opportunity to receive life-giving teachings. If we seek God with all our hearts, we open ourselves to a treasure that is beyond human comprehension.
In Matthew 3:11, John the Baptist acknowledges that while he baptizes with water for repentance, there is One who is coming who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire, purifying us and enabling us to discern between right and wrong.
Purification Through God's Fire
“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11)
Praise God that His refining fire will purify us.
This fire is not destructive but transformative, enabling us to distinguish good from evil. As we are cleansed, we are prepared to walk in righteousness, receiving life-giving teachings that will empower us to discern the will of God.
The Persecution of Believers
John 17:14: “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”
In the days ahead, many will face great trials, and many will perish, but those who are purified will remain. People of hostility will seek to destroy you because you have received the words of life. The darkness will seek to overwhelm you, but God will protect you. Though the enemy may surround you with fiery trials, you will not be burned.
Divine Protection and Encouragement
Hebrews 1:14: “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?”
The Lord will place a hedge of protection around His people. His angels are encamped about you, offering guidance and support.
As you embrace His teachings, you are receiving more than just knowledge; you are receiving divine empowerment and protection. Your portion is secured in Him.
Gratitude for the Portion You Receive
Be thankful for the portion you have received from God. Declare it boldly, for when you speak of the good things God has done in your life, the enemy cannot steal it from you.
In 2 Timothy 4:3, it is written: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers.”
Many will reject the truth because their hearts are puffed up with their own desires. They will choose teachers who tickle their ears but lead them astray. But those who remain faithful to God’s Word will experience His peace, even in the midst of turmoil.
Avoiding the Pitfalls of Self-Will
Self-centeredness, pride, and arrogance are traits that lead to spiritual destruction. Many people today are filled with pride and seek self-gratification. But God desires to pour Himself into us and use us as vessels to bless others. Do not embrace the comforts of the world, for they are but distractions. Instead, seek God's will in everything.
Pressing on in the Work of the Lord
2 Timothy 2:3: “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”
Endure hardship, for the life-giving teachings of Christ are often found in the midst of suffering. Do not seek comfort or ease, but pursue God with all your heart. Your strength will be renewed, and your path made clear as you lean on Him.
Conclusion
In receiving life-giving teachings, we are called to endure, to be purified, and to walk faithfully with God. We must embrace the refining process, even when it involves hardship.
As we follow the Word of God and remain steadfast in our faith, we will receive the strength and wisdom necessary to navigate the challenges ahead.
Let us continue to seek God, relying on His grace and protection, and trusting that He will lead us into a future filled with hope and blessing.
