THE POWER OF LIVING BY HIS WORD By Major Frank Materu
Introduction
God’s Word is life, the living bread, and the source of true strength for humanity. Yet, many in this generation prioritize the outward appearance—flashy designs, publications, and graphics—over sharing the transformative power of His Word. This teaching seeks to remind us of the importance of putting forth His Word, waiting on Him, avoiding haste, rejecting sin, and standing firm in truth. Through His Word, we find righteousness, purpose, and ultimate victory.
The Word of God is Life
The Word of God nourishes, strengthens, and sustains the soul. It is the "living bread" that every believer needs to partake of daily. Scripture says:
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4, NKJV)
God’s Word clothes us in righteousness, enabling us to walk in His ways and reflect His holiness. Without it, we are spiritually naked and vulnerable. Let us prioritize sharing His Word in its fullness, for it is His Word that transforms lives, not mere human efforts.
Rejoice in True Works
God has called us to the true works—the works of dispersing the living bread. These works are not about personal gain or recognition but about glorifying God and fulfilling His purpose.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, NKJV)
Rejoice in this calling, knowing that it is a privilege to serve as co-laborers with Christ.
Avoiding Haste: Wait Upon the Lord
Haste leads to sin because it causes us to act without consulting God. When we rush ahead of Him, we neglect His guidance and make mistakes.
“He who hurries his footsteps errs.” (Proverbs 19:2, BSB)
Waiting on God requires patience and trust. It allows us to align with His will and timing. Take time to seek His face and inquire of Him in all things, for His plans are always perfect.
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles.” (Isaiah 40:31, NKJV)
Do Not Seek to Please Men
Seeking the approval of men often leads to compromise. God calls us to stand firm in truth, even when the world rejects us.
“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians 1:10, ESV)
Rejoice when you are despised or rejected for His sake, for this is evidence that you are walking in obedience.
Be Satisfied in God Alone
True satisfaction comes from God, not from worldly accomplishments or recognition. When we place our trust in Him, He provides all we need.
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19, NIV)
Do not be ashamed to depend on Him, for He is near to those who seek Him with humble hearts.
Follow the Truth, Reject Lies
Following lies leads to destruction, but standing for truth brings life and strength.
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32, NIV)
Truth is the foundation of a victorious life. Let us embrace it wholeheartedly and reject all forms of deception.
Do Not Entertain Sin
God has not called us to tolerate sin but to live in holiness and righteousness. Sin destroys the soul and hinders our relationship with God.
“Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:22, NKJV)
Stay alert and vigilant, recognizing that life is a spiritual battle. By staying in His Word and Spirit, we overcome sin and stand firm in faith.
Victory Through Thanksgiving and Praise
Victory is often birthed through thanksgiving and praise. Gratitude shifts our focus to God’s power and provision, opening doors for His intervention.
“Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57, NKJV)
