A Warning to Remain Under God\'s Wings By Major Frank Materu

"The priests did not ask, ‘Where is the Lord?’ Those who deal with the law did not know me; the leaders rebelled against me. The prophets prophesied by Baal, following worthless idols."

(Jeremiah 2:8, NIV)

Introduction

God, in His mercy and sovereignty, calls His people to seek Him above all else. Yet, many choose rebellion, neglecting His ways and pursuing paths of destruction.

This article serves as a warning to remain under God’s protection, fully committed to His will, as perilous days are upon us. Only those who take refuge under His wings will be preserved from the judgment to come.

Do Not Follow the Ways of the Ungodly

“Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company; for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble.” (Proverbs 24:1–2, NIV)

The ways of the ungodly are alluring to some, but their paths lead to destruction. Do not seek to understand the sins and diseases of those who reject God. Instead, seek to know Him and His truth.

When you align yourself with God’s judgments, you will approach Him purified and cleansed of unrighteousness.

Many times, humans judge poorly, calling what is unclean pure. But God’s judgment is perfect.

He warns us against taking the easy path, for it is often the way of death.

“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death.”

(Proverbs 14:12, NIV)

The Consequences of Rebellion

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

(Romans 6:23, NIV)

Throughout history, those who have tried to suppress God’s truth or defile it have faced severe consequences.

Today, we witness similar outcomes as people suffer under the weight of sin, such as through incurable diseases like HIV/AIDS. Many have sought to destroy God and His truth, but in doing so, they have destroyed themselves.

When God releases a curse, no human power can stop it—it can only grow stronger. This serves as a reminder that humanity is not self-sufficient; we are utterly dependent on God for life and hope.

Rejoice Under the Shelter of His Wings

“How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.”

(Psalm 36:7, NIV)

For those who fear God, the future holds blessings, even as the wicked face judgment. Stay firmly rooted in Him, for He will protect, preserve, and shield you from the coming destruction.

Waves of evil are rising over the land, and only those deeply rooted in God will endure. As destruction increases, believers will find refuge in His strength, while the wicked will receive the judgment they have invited.

“Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.”

(Psalm 91:9–10, NKJV)

A Warning Against Mocking God

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

(Galatians 6:7, NIV)

When people choose to defy God and live corrupt lives, He marks them for judgment. Mocking God invites His curse, and those who do so will not escape His wrath. What they cry out for in their rebellion—whether it be death or destruction—God will give them.

In their worship of darkness and sacrifices to false gods, they have summoned the forces of hell, and their so-called "god" will consume them.

"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

(Acts 4:12, ESV)

The Coming Shakings

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.”

(Matthew 24:6, NIV)

God is preparing the earth for His return. Many will experience great shakings—earthquakes, disasters, and turmoil. Humanity has believed in its own safety, but God will demonstrate otherwise. Only in Jesus is true safety found.

Conclusion

The days ahead will be filled with trials, judgment, and destruction for the ungodly. Yet, for those who remain under God’s wings, they will experience His protection and peace. He calls us to a life of holiness and trust, warning us against rebellion and complacency.

Take refuge in the Lord today, for He alone is our salvation and our stronghold. Call upon Him, and He will deliver you from the trials to come. Choose life, not death; choose blessing, not cursing. The shadow of His wings is the safest place to be.

“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

(Proverbs 18:10, NIV)
