GOD SEARCHES FOR THOSE WHO DESIRE RIGHTEOUSNESS By Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” – Matthew 5:6 (NIV)
Introduction In a world increasingly filled with filthiness, corruption, and unrighteousness, God earnestly seeks men and women who hunger and thirst for His righteousness. This is a generation where many have turned away from pursuing holiness, choosing instead the fleeting pleasures of sin. However, the promise of God remains steadfast: those who desire and seek after His righteousness will not be disappointed. This teaching will explore God’s call for righteousness, the consequences of ignoring that call, and the rewards for those who earnestly pursue Him.

God Blesses Those Who Hunger for Righteousness The blessings of God are reserved for those who long for His righteousness. These are the individuals who seek to align their lives with His holiness and truth.
Matthew 5:6 reminds us: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” God delights in those who pursue Him and live to please Him. To such people, He provides the fullness of His Spirit, guiding them in truth and leading them into His divine purposes.

The Tragedy of Turning Away from Righteousness It is a grievous state when individuals, especially those who claim to belong to God, reject righteousness and indulge in wickedness. Scripture warns of the consequences of this rebellion.
Romans 1:28-32 declares: “Since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, He gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness…”
Such people invite destruction upon themselves. Their pursuits of selfish desires, evil imaginations, and corrupt lifestyles separate them from the blessings of God and make them candidates for His wrath.

God’s Wrath Upon the Ungodly In this generation, where many thirst for perversion and vileness, God is just in pouring out His wrath upon the unrepentant. This wrath is a direct result of their rejection of His mercy and love.
Isaiah 13:11 says: “I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.”

God’s wrath is not arbitrary but a response to humanity’s deliberate choice to walk in opposition to His ways. The very evil that people thirst for becomes their destruction.
God’s Desire for Righteousness in His People Despite the wickedness in the world, God’s desire is for His people to walk uprightly and to hunger for righteousness. He promises to fill and bless those who seek Him wholeheartedly.
Psalm 34:15 assures us: “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their cry.”
When we choose to hunger for God’s righteousness, He meets us with His presence, providing strength, guidance, and peace in a troubled world.

Summary The call to righteousness is not optional for those who desire to live in alignment with God. While the world may offer distractions and temptations, the promise of God remains sure: He will fill those who hunger and thirst for Him. However, for those who reject His ways, there awaits the certainty of His wrath and judgment.
Conclusion Let us evaluate our hearts and our desires. Are we truly seeking the righteousness of God? Or have we allowed the allure of this world to draw us away from His purposes? The decision to pursue righteousness leads to life, but the path of wickedness leads to destruction.
