THE NECESSITY OF THE ONE BODY: A DIVINE CALL TO UNITY, HUMILITY, AND KINGDOM PURPOSE By Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture:
“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 12:12

Introduction
In an age marked by division, comparison, pride, and silent competition among people and nations, the voice of God calls His people back to a higher reality—one that transcends material wealth, social status, race, and human distinctions. This lesson unveils a divine truth that is both simple and deeply confronting: humanity, particularly those who belong to Christ, is designed to function as one interconnected body. No part is superior. No part is irrelevant. Every part is necessary.
The message presented is not merely theological; it is corrective. It challenges false hierarchies that have crept into the Body of Christ—where some esteem themselves based on economic advantage, while others fall into resentment due to lack. It exposes the subtle poison of division rooted in pride, prejudice, and spiritual blindness. At the same time, it restores the original intention of God: a people united, interdependent, and functioning under His authority and love.
This teaching also confronts superficial Christianity. Many profess faith, yet their lives contradict the very nature of Christ. The lesson draws a clear line between those who “talk the talk” and those who truly walk in transformation. It calls for genuine rebirth, humility, and surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ as the only pathway to unity and righteousness.
Ultimately, this is a call to return—to righteousness, to unity, and to divine order. It is a call to abandon the illusions of independence and embrace the truth that we are deeply in need of one another under God’s covering. This is not optional; it is foundational to fulfilling God’s Kingdom purposes on earth.

THE DIVINE DESIGN OF INTERDEPENDENCE
________________________________________
God never intended for His people to operate in isolation or superiority. From the beginning, He designed humanity with a built-in dependency—not weakness, but divine interconnection. Each person carries a measure, a grace, and a function that is essential to the whole.
“But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.” — 1 Corinthians 12:18
The illusion of self-sufficiency is one of the most dangerous deceptions. Those in prosperous nations may assume they are complete because of material abundance, while those in poverty may feel inferior or resentful. Both positions are rooted in error. Wealth does not equal spiritual superiority, and lack does not equate to spiritual deficiency.
God’s design dismantles these false perceptions. He reveals that every believer, regardless of external condition, is in need of others. The wealthy need humility and generosity. The poor need dignity and faith. Both need each other.
Interdependence is not optional—it is the structure of the Body of Christ.

THE DANGER OF DIVISION AND PREJUDICE
________________________________________
Division is not a cultural accident; it is a spiritual strategy. From the Garden of Eden, when disobedience opened the door, the enemy introduced separation—first between God and man, then between man and fellow man.
“And he hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth.” — Acts 17:26
Racism, classism, gender bias, and cultural arrogance are not merely social issues—they are manifestations of a deeper spiritual corruption. When people separate themselves based on race, economic status, or background, they are rejecting God’s original design.
God makes it clear: all humanity originates from one blood. Therefore, any form of prejudice is not only unjust—it is rebellion against divine truth.
Even within the church, these divisions persist. People subtly align themselves with those who look like them, think like them, or live like them. This is not the Kingdom. The Kingdom of God is not built on comfort zones; it is built on truth, love, and unity.

THE ROLE OF JESUS CHRIST IN RESTORING UNITY
________________________________________
The solution to human division is not education, policy, or social reform—it is transformation through Jesus Christ. Only through Him can the broken nature of humanity be restored.
“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.” — Ephesians 2:14
Jesus is not merely a teacher; He is the embodiment of divine love. His life demonstrates humility, sacrifice, and complete dependence on the Father. He came not to elevate Himself but to serve, to reconcile, and to restore.
When individuals are truly born again, they receive a new nature—one that rejects hatred and embraces love. This transformation is not superficial. It is radical. It requires surrender, repentance, and a willingness to change deeply ingrained attitudes and behaviors.
Without Jesus, unity is impossible. With Him, it becomes inevitable for those who truly follow Him.

THE NECESSITY OF HUMBLING AND TRANSFORMATION
________________________________________
God actively resists pride and orchestrates circumstances that humble those who exalt themselves. This is not punishment—it is correction.
“God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” — James 4:6
Often, those who consider themselves superior are brought into situations that expose their weaknesses. In these moments, they realize that they are not as strong or righteous as they believed. This humbling is necessary to break arrogance and cultivate dependence on God and others.
True believers must undergo this process. Without humility, there can be no unity. Without brokenness, there can be no genuine love.
Humility is not weakness—it is alignment with truth.

THE BODY OF CHRIST: A FUNCTIONAL UNITY
________________________________________
The Body of Christ is not a metaphor for convenience; it is a functional reality. Each member has a role, and no role is insignificant.
“And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.” — 1 Corinthians 12:21
When one part isolates itself, the entire body suffers. When one part is dishonored, the harmony is disrupted. Unity does not mean uniformity; it means coordinated diversity under one Head—Jesus Christ.
God does not tolerate the dismissal of any member. Those who reject others based on differences are, in essence, rejecting God’s arrangement.
The Body must function as one, or it fails its purpose.

THE PROPER PERSPECTIVE ON WEALTH AND PROVISION
________________________________________
Material wealth is not a sign of divine approval, nor is poverty a sign of rejection. Both are conditions that require proper stewardship.
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Mark 8:36
Those who possess wealth are entrusted with responsibility. If they fail to use their resources for God’s purposes, their wealth becomes a burden rather than a blessing. It weighs them down spiritually.
Jesus Himself lived without material security. He had no permanent home, demonstrating complete dependence on God.
“The Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” — Luke 9:58
This example dismantles the idolization of wealth. True security is not found in possessions but in obedience to God.

GUIDANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN GIVING AND SHARING
________________________________________
God does not call His people into reckless giving or manipulative systems. Instead, He calls for Spirit-led generosity.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” — Romans 8:14
There are those who exploit generosity, seeking to take without contributing. There are also those who give faithfully as directed by God. Discernment is essential.
Giving must be guided by the Holy Spirit, not guilt, pressure, or human expectation. Jesus Himself gave strategically, not indiscriminately.
True generosity flows from obedience, not emotion.

SUMMARY
This lesson reveals that God’s intention for His people is unity rooted in humility and interdependence. Division, prejudice, and pride are contrary to His design and must be confronted. Jesus Christ is the only solution to human brokenness, and through Him, true transformation and unity become possible. Wealth and poverty are not measures of spiritual worth but opportunities for stewardship and growth. The Body of Christ must function as one, guided by the Spirit, and committed to God’s Kingdom purposes.

CONCLUSION
The call of God is clear and uncompromising. He is not interested in fragmented, prideful, and self-centered believers. He is forming a unified Body—one that reflects His nature, His love, and His order.
This unity is not theoretical. It demands action, change, and surrender. It requires believers to confront their biases, humble themselves, and embrace others as essential parts of the same Body.
God is restoring righteousness, and this restoration begins with alignment to His truth.
