Reflections By Major Frank Materu
---Introduction:
In our spiritual journey, it is essential to take time to reflect on how we are living our lives. Are we aligning our thoughts and actions with God’s will, or are we allowing our carnal minds to lead us astray? This reflection draws from the need to assess ourselves honestly, yielding to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Scripture reminds us of the importance of walking in alignment with God:
"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:23-24, NIV)

The Battle Between the Spirit Mind and the Carnal Mind
As believers, we live with an ongoing battle between the Spirit mind, which aligns with God, and the carnal mind, which is influenced by the flesh and the enemy.
"The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace." (Romans 8:6, NIV)
The carnal mind seeks to draw us away from God, leading us into former habits of sin. However, the Spirit mind offers life and peace, enabling us to walk in the freedom of Christ.

Living as Reflections of Christ
Believers are called to follow Christ’s example of humility and obedience. Jesus demonstrated complete submission to God’s will during His earthly life.
"Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant." (Philippians 2:6-7, NIV)
We must seek to reflect Christ in our daily lives, embracing humility and obedience while distancing ourselves from hypocrisy and sin.

The Danger of Hypocrisy and Carnality
Hypocrisy, often rooted in pride and self-righteousness, leads to spiritual stagnation and separation from God. Many claim to serve God but continue to indulge in worldly desires, masking their disobedience with outward religiosity.
"These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." (Matthew 15:8, NIV)
True believers must reject the pull of hypocrisy and strive for genuine transformation through Christ.

The Role of Reflection and Repentance
Reflection allows us to evaluate our thoughts and actions in the light of God’s Word. It is an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where we fall short, leading us to repentance and renewal.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9, NIV)
By consistently practicing reflection and repentance, believers ensure they remain in right standing with God.

The Precious Gift of Redemption
Salvation through Christ is the ultimate privilege and blessing. Those who walk in obedience to God’s Word are assured of their place in His divine family and the promise of eternal life.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16, NIV)
This gift requires us to uphold our commitment to God through daily obedience and surrender to His will.

Summary
Reflection is a vital spiritual practice that aligns our hearts with God’s desires. By rejecting the carnal mind and yielding to the Spirit, believers can grow in their faith and live as true reflections of Christ. Hypocrisy and disobedience hinder this growth, but repentance restores our relationship with God.
