STAYING IN THE PLACE OF SERVICE By Major. Frank Materu

"Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ" (1 Corinthians 12:12, NIV).
Introduction:
In the Christian journey, we are called to embrace our unique roles in the Body of Christ.
Each one of us has been crafted with a divine purpose, placed exactly where God intends, for His glory.
This article explores the biblical mandate to remain faithful in our service, the challenges we face, and how to find joy and purpose in God’s plan.
Understanding Our Place in the Body of Christ
The Apostle Paul likens believers to the parts of a human body, emphasizing that each part is essential (1 Corinthians 12:12-27).
God has appointed each one of us in the body as it pleases Him (v.18).
This divine arrangement eliminates the need for comparison or envy.
Instead, we should celebrate our role and serve faithfully.
- Do not seek someone else’s position:
Avoid jealousy and competition; focus on how God wants to use you uniquely.
- Rejoice in your placement:
It is a privilege to be part of the Body of Christ. As Paul encourages,
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4).
Guarding Against Distractions:
The enemy often uses distractions, including the allure of worldly ways or focusing too much on others' sins.
These distractions can lead us away from God’s will.
- Beware of the traps of curiosity:
Paul warns in Ephesians 5:15-17 to walk wisely, making the most of every opportunity and avoiding foolishness.
- Stay focused on God’s plan:
Instead of dwelling on worldly matters, fix your eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).
Responding to Discouragement:
Discouragement is a tool the enemy uses to weaken our faith.
However, God allows brokenness to shape us for His purpose.
- Embrace brokenness as a path to growth:
When your heart is broken, turn to God, for He will reveal new facets of His character.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).
- Avoid self-pity:
Use your trials as opportunities to lean on Christ, learning humility and dependence on Him.
Serving with Joy and Gratitude:
Faithful service is not always directly linked to immediate blessings, but God rewards us in His own time and way.
- Serve without expectation:
Trust in God’s wisdom to bless you as He sees fit.
- Be thankful daily:
Like the Israelites receiving fresh manna, we are called to receive God’s provisions with gratitude, not dwelling on past blessings but appreciating His new mercies every day (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Standing Firm in Spiritual Warfare:
Paul reminds us to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Remaining in the place of service requires persistence and spiritual discipline.
- Use the shield of faith:
"With it, you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one" (Ephesians 6:16).
- Stay in prayer:
By staying on your knees, you remain connected to God’s strength, avoiding the snares of the enemy.
Living as Reflections of Christ’s Light:
God polishes and refines His children so that His light can shine through them.
- Allow God to work in you:
Submit to His refining process as He removes impurities and reveals His glory through you.
"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works" (Ephesians 2:10).
- Remain humble:
True service comes from a heart of humility and reverence for God.
Conclusion:
Staying in the place of service is both a calling and a journey.
It requires humility, focus, and unwavering faith.
As we submit to God’s plan and serve joyfully, we become vessels for His purpose and glory.
Let us remember Paul’s words:
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things" (Philippians 4:8).
May we embrace our roles in the Body of Christ with gratitude, serve faithfully, and rejoice in the privilege of being part of His kingdom work.
