Introduction

The world is filled with countless agendas—political, social, and personal—that compete for our attention and devotion. Yet, above all these, God’s agenda reigns supreme. His purpose is unchanging: to call humanity to repentance and reconciliation with Him. In this teaching, we will explore the centrality of repentance in God’s ultimate agenda and how deviation from His purpose leads to spiritual decay. By aligning ourselves with His will, we find true peace, purpose, and eternal life.

The Call to Repentance

It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Luke 5:31-32, NIV)

God’s ultimate agenda is for all people to repent and turn back to Him. Repentance is the foundation of a right relationship with God, and it is through repentance that we receive His mercy and forgiveness. When men turn away from their sins, they align themselves with the truth and light of God.

However, many are distracted by worldly agendas, power sources, and causes that lead them astray. These deviations prevent people from acknowledging their need for repentance, leaving them in spiritual darkness. God’s desire is not for superficial morality or works but for genuine repentance and obedience to Him.

Deviations from God’s Agenda

There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. (Proverbs 14:12, NIV)

Throughout history, men have created causes and agendas that seem noble but ultimately lead them away from God. Political schemes, social reforms, and even religious movements often fail to address the core issue: the need for personal repentance and transformation.

The pursuit of power, fame, or moral superiority without repentance is futile. God is not impressed by human endeavors that neglect His call to turn from sin. True change begins with individual repentance, not societal reform.

God’s Ultimate Agenda

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)

God’s agenda surpasses all human agendas. He desires that all men come to the knowledge of truth and be saved. His plan is not about temporal power, riches, or fame but about eternal life through Jesus Christ. Forgiveness and restoration are available to all who repent and believe.

God’s ultimate power is displayed in His authority to forgive sins and offer eternal life. No human agenda can compare to His divine purpose. He moves with sovereignty over all creation, and His will cannot be thwarted.

The Role of God’s People

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV)

Believers are called to live lives of repentance and to call others to do the same. Our focus should not be on worldly causes or fears but on obeying God’s commands and demonstrating His righteousness. By repenting daily and turning away from sin, we become vessels of light that draw others to God.

The church’s mission is not to promote political or social agendas but to proclaim the gospel of repentance and salvation. Only through repentance can true change occur in individuals and nations.
