The Call to a Life of True Repentance and Faithfulness By Major. Frank Materu

Main Verse:

"Return to me, and I will return to you," says the Lord Almighty. Malachi 3:7 (NIV)

1. Self-Will: The Blindness to Our Soul's Destiny

When self-will takes root in our hearts, it blinds us to the destiny of our souls. Many become so absorbed in their own desires that they lose sight of the privilege of being redeemed and guided by God each day.

The joy of salvation is lost to those who do not walk in humility, blinded by self-centered pursuits.

"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. Matthew 16:25 (NIV

In contrast, those who embrace humility through daily repentance are open to God’s guidance.

They walk in thankfulness for the mercy and grace He offers, lifting Him up instead of asserting themselves.

2. The Faithfulness of True Repentance

"If you love me, keep my commands." John 14:15 (NIV)

When someone truly loves and serves God, they must honor that love with obedience.

Repentance should be steadfast—not merely a moment of humility, but a commitment to a life free from sin.

Repentance is not a one-time declaration but an ongoing posture of humility.

A repentant heart remains softened, aware that only by God's mercy are we kept and redeemed.

Too often, people declare their love for God, only to turn back to their old ways. "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." Luke 9:62 (NIV)

3. Obedience and the Repentance Revolution

God has established repentance as the first and foremost principle for those who seek Him. The Repentance Revolution is not a fleeting trend but a divine invitation to transform our lives, rooted in humility, obedience, and holiness.

"In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent." Acts 17:30 (NIV)

True repentance brings strength and grace, as we align ourselves with God's will.

A repentant life invites God's power and presence, fortifying us against sin.

4. The Cost of Rejecting Repentance

Without genuine repentance, there is no redemptive mercy. Many in this generation mistakenly assume that mercy will come without change, but God’s mercy is only extended to those who turn from sin.

To be saved and sustained in faith, we must fulfill His call to repentance—not offering an “alternative sacrifice” or half-hearted commitment.

"But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 (NIV)

5. Consequences of a Hardened Heart

In rejecting repentance, people open themselves to the consequences of their desires. "Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts..." Romans 1:24 (NIV)

Many seek freedom without limits, only to find themselves bound by the very things they pursued—lust, greed, and the abuse of power.

When people choose to walk in sin, God allows them to see the outcome of that choice. Yet, in His mercy, He calls each of us to repentance, offering freedom from bondage and true life in Him.

Conclusion: A Life Centered on Repentance

Repentance is not a burden; it is the path to God's grace and freedom. As we embrace daily repentance, we find joy in His guidance, and the strength to resist sin.

May we turn to Him with humble hearts, faithful to walk in His ways, and ever thankful for the privilege of redemption

"Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."- Psalm 51:10 (KJV)
