Trusting God\'s Call in a Time of Rebellion and Doubt By Major. Frank Materu

Main Bible Text:

“The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: ‘Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.’” — Jeremiah 18:1-6(NKJV)

In our world today, where many people face uncertainty, fear, and a wavering faith, the message of God’s unwavering guidance and transformative power speaks with urgency and hope.

Through the timeless illustration of the Potter and the Clay in the book of Jeremiah, God calls us to trust His perfect plan for our lives, even when surrounded by darkness.

1. A Call to Trust God Amidst Doubt and Rebellion

In times when faith may seem shaken by challenges and trials, we are reminded that God is ever-present and sovereign.

No matter how distant He may feel, His power to transform and redeem remains steadfast.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6(NKJV)

When we feel our faith waver, God invites us to place our trust entirely in Him, surrendering our fears and doubts.

He has a purpose and a plan, and it is only by placing ourselves in His hands that we can find peace and direction.

2. The Potter and the Clay: God’s Sovereign Power Over Creation

In Jeremiah 18, God takes the prophet to the potter’s house as a symbol of His sovereign ability to shape, refine, and mold us according to His perfect will.

“O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? says the Lord.

Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!” — Jeremiah 18:6 (NKJV)

God, like the potter, holds complete authority over His creation. Even when the clay is flawed, the potter doesn’t discard it—he reshapes it.

In the same way, God doesn’t abandon us in our imperfections.

Instead, He molds us into vessels that reflect His grace and purpose.

God is able to transform every broken area, every sin, and every struggle into something beautiful, if we allow Him to work within us.

3. The Path of Repentance and Transformation

True transformation** in Christ begins with a heart willing to repent.

Repentance is not just a single act but a continuous journey of turning away from sin and turning towards God.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

The miracle of salvation lies in God’s ability to take us as we are, yet transform us into something wholly new.

When we repent, we align ourselves with God’s will, allowing His Spirit to renew us.

Every moment of repentance is a step closer to the abundant life He has promised.

4. Humility Before God: The Foundation of True Change

God delights in those who humble themselves, seeking His guidance over their own understanding.

In a world filled with pride, true humility is a rare and powerful trait that draws us nearer to God.

“The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 (NKJV)

Humility is not merely about outward actions but reflects a heart willing to bow before God.

It’s a daily commitment to acknowledge that He is the Creator, and we are His creation.

Only by humbling ourselves can we be fully molded and directed by His hand.

5. Beware of Divided Loyalties: Forsake the World for God

Too often, people hold a divided loyalty between God and the world.

Jesus warned against trying to serve two masters, for a heart set on the world cannot fully follow God’s call.

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” — 1 John 2:15 (NKJV)

God calls us to separate ourselves from worldly attachments and distractions, just as Lot’s family was called to leave Sodom without looking back.

Lot’s wife, who looked back longingly, was lost because her heart remained with the things of the world.

Likewise, God desires for us to follow Him without hesitation, freeing ourselves from anything that competes with His place in our hearts.

6. God’s Urgent Call to a Repentance Revolution

Today, God is calling His people to a “Repentance Revolution.”

This movement is about consistently turning from sin, renewing our commitment to Him, and trusting in His power to bring lasting change.

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV)

In these dark times, our world desperately needs this call to repentance.

God promises to heal and restore, but we must first be willing to come before Him, humbly acknowledging our need for His grace.

7. Conclusion: God’s Call to Trust, Repent, and Follow

In the face of doubt, fear, and worldly distractions, God’s call remains unwavering. He is calling us to trust Him with our lives, to humble ourselves, and to choose repentance as a way of life.

God is able—He is able to take our brokenness and make it new, to deliver us from darkness, and to lead us into the fullness of His purpose.

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart—these, O God,

You will not despise.” — Psalm 51:17 (NKJV)

Will you trust Him today? Will you choose to stand with God, to humble yourself and follow His call?

In doing so, you will find that He is indeed mighty to save, ready to transform every aspect of your life through the miracle of His grace.
