BORN AGAIN OF INCORRUPTIBLE SEED: LIVING THE NEW LIFE IN CHRIST By: Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture:
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” — 1 Peter 1:23

Introduction
The message of salvation through Jesus Christ is not merely about forgiveness of sins; it is about transformation into an entirely new life. When a person is born again, they undergo a spiritual rebirth that changes their identity, their purpose, and their destiny. This rebirth is not symbolic or superficial. It is a profound and supernatural work of God that takes place within the spirit of a believer. Through this transformation, the old life passes away and a new life begins.
To be born again of incorruptible seed means that the new life given by God is not subject to decay or corruption. Unlike the old nature, which was bound by sin, weakness, and spiritual darkness, the new nature is rooted in the eternal life of God Himself. This new life is meant to manifest in healing, restoration, deliverance, provision, and protection. It is a life that reflects the power and glory of God.
Many believers struggle because they continue to identify with their old selves instead of embracing their new identity in Christ. They remember the pain, sickness, confusion, and bondage that once dominated their lives. Even after receiving salvation, they sometimes continue to live as though they are still bound by those same afflictions. This creates a conflict between the old life and the new life, between the carnal mind and the mind of the Spirit.
God’s intention is not for His people to remain trapped in the shadows of their past. He calls them to walk in the fullness of their new identity. He desires that they experience the freedom that comes through truth and the victory that comes through faith. The believer is not meant to live under the oppression of past afflictions but to walk in the liberty of a new creation.
This lesson explores what it means to be born again of incorruptible seed, how believers can embrace their new identity, and how they can walk in the fullness of the life that God has provided through Jesus Christ.

The Power of the Incorruptible Seed
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature.” — 2 Peter 1:4
________________________________________
The incorruptible seed is the Word of God planted within the heart of a believer. This seed contains the life and nature of God Himself. When a person is born again, they receive this seed, and it begins to grow within them, transforming their thoughts, desires, and actions.
Unlike the corruptible nature of the old life, the incorruptible seed cannot be destroyed by sin, sickness, or spiritual opposition. It is eternal because it comes from God. This means that the believer’s new identity is secure and unchanging, even when circumstances seem difficult.
To understand the power of the incorruptible seed is to understand that salvation is not fragile. It is not dependent on human strength but on divine power. God Himself sustains the new life that He gives.
Because of this incorruptible seed, believers are no longer defined by their past. They are no longer the broken, wounded, or oppressed individuals they once were. Instead, they are new creations, made alive in Christ and empowered by the Spirit of God.

Becoming a New Creation
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17

The new birth brings about a complete transformation. It is not a partial change but a total renewal of the inner person. The old identity, shaped by sin and brokenness, is replaced by a new identity rooted in righteousness and truth.
This transformation affects every area of life. It affects the way a person thinks, the way they feel, and the way they act. It changes their priorities and their desires. What once seemed important may no longer matter, and what once seemed impossible may now become attainable through faith.
However, many believers struggle to fully accept this transformation. They continue to see themselves through the lens of their past experiences. They remember their failures and weaknesses, and they allow those memories to shape their present identity.
God calls His people to see themselves as He sees them. He sees them as redeemed, restored, and renewed. He sees them as His children, filled with His Spirit and destined for His Kingdom.
To live as a new creation is to accept this new identity and to walk in the reality of what God has done.

Rejecting the Old Afflictions
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” — John 8:32

One of the greatest challenges believers face is the temptation to return to their old afflictions. These afflictions may be physical, emotional, or spiritual. They may include sickness, fear, addiction, depression, or destructive habits.
Even after receiving freedom, believers may find themselves confronted by the same struggles that once held them captive. These struggles may appear suddenly, as though attempting to reclaim their former place.
In such moments, believers must stand firm in the truth. They must refuse to accept what God has already delivered them from. They must declare the truth of God’s Word and resist the lies that seek to pull them back into bondage.
Freedom must be defended. It must be protected and maintained through faith and obedience. When believers hold fast to the truth, they remain free.

Faith in God Rather Than the Arm of Flesh
“Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm.” — Jeremiah 17:5
________________________________________
God desires that His people place their trust in Him rather than in human solutions. While human assistance has its place, it should never replace faith in God.
The world offers many solutions to life’s problems, but these solutions are often temporary and incomplete. True healing and restoration come from God alone.
When believers place their faith in God, they acknowledge His sovereignty and His power. They recognize that He is able to do what no human being can do.
This kind of faith requires humility. It requires a willingness to depend on God rather than on one’s own understanding. It requires trust in His wisdom and His timing.

Living Under the Mind of the Spirit
“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” — Romans 8:5
________________________________________
The mind of the Spirit leads believers into truth and righteousness. It provides clarity and direction, guiding them in the path that God has prepared.
The carnal mind, on the other hand, leads to confusion and deception. It is influenced by selfish desires and worldly thinking. When believers follow the carnal mind, they become vulnerable to spiritual attack.
Living under the mind of the Spirit requires daily surrender. It requires listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit and obeying His guidance.
As believers grow in their relationship with God, they become more sensitive to His leading. They learn to recognize His voice and to follow His direction.

Citizens of the Eternal Kingdom
“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.” — Philippians 3:20
________________________________________
Believers are citizens of an eternal Kingdom. This Kingdom is not subject to the changes and uncertainties of the world. It is a Kingdom that endures forever.
As citizens of this Kingdom, believers are called to live according to its values and principles. They are called to reflect the character of God and to represent His truth.
This identity provides stability and hope. It reminds believers that their ultimate home is not on earth but in heaven.
In heaven, there is no sickness, no pain, and no sorrow. There is only life, peace, and joy in the presence of God.

Walking in Humility and Obedience
“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” — Philippians 2:8
________________________________________
Jesus Christ is the perfect example of humility and obedience. Though He was the Son of God, He chose to humble Himself and to serve others.
Believers are called to follow His example. They are called to walk in humility and to submit to God’s will.
True greatness in the Kingdom of God comes through humility. It comes through obedience and surrender.
When believers humble themselves before God, He lifts them up and establishes them in His purposes.
