THE FUTILITY OF REBELLION AGAINST GOD By: Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture: Psalm 2:1-4 – "Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, 'Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.' The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them."

Introduction
Throughout history, individuals and nations have attempted to rebel against God, assuming they can overthrow His authority. Such attempts, however, are not only futile but self-destructive. The rebellion against God is inspired by Satan, the original rebel, who deceives people into believing they can oppose the Almighty. Yet, scripture consistently demonstrates that no one who rises against God prevails. This teaching explores the foolishness of rebellion, its consequences, and the victory that belongs to those who remain faithful to God.

The Nature of Rebellion Against God
Genesis of Rebellion
From the beginning, rebellion has been rooted in pride and deception. Satan, once an angel of light, attempted to overthrow God but was cast down. Similarly, Adam and Eve, deceived by the serpent, disobeyed God's command and fell into sin. Rebellion against God always begins with rejecting His authority and choosing self-rule.
Isaiah 14:12-15 – "How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, 'I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God… But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit.'"

The Blindness of Rebels
Rebellion Leads to Darkness
Those who oppose God walk in spiritual blindness. They are deceived into thinking that they have power over their own destiny when, in reality, they are being manipulated by the forces of darkness. Their arrogance blinds them to the reality of divine judgment.
2 Corinthians 4:4 – "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."

The Consequences of Rebellion
Destruction in This Life and Eternity
Rebellion does not go unpunished. Those who resist God's authority experience destruction both in this life and in the life to come. Nations that reject God fall into chaos, and individuals who defy Him find themselves in despair. The ultimate destiny of rebels is eternal separation from God.
Proverbs 16:18 – "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."
Revelation 20:15 – "Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire."

The Victory of the Righteous
God Protects His People
Though the world may be filled with rebellion, God watches over those who remain faithful to Him. The spiritual battle is real, but God has given His people the Holy Spirit as a guide and protector. His angels are assigned to defend those who trust in Him.
Psalm 34:7 – "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them."

The Call to Obedience
Choose Submission Over Rebellion
Every individual must choose whom they will serve—God or the enemy. There is no neutral ground. The wise submit to God and enjoy His peace, while the rebellious face judgment. True victory comes through surrender to Jesus Christ.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 – "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live."

Summary
Rebellion against God is rooted in pride and deception. Those who choose to oppose Him are blinded and ultimately lead themselves to destruction. The righteous, however, are preserved and empowered by God to stand firm against the schemes of the enemy. In the end, all attempts to overthrow God are futile, and His Kingdom reigns forever.
