WE MUST IDENTIFY WITH GOD, NOT THE UNSAVED WORLD By Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture:
"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them." (1 John 2:15, NIV)

Introduction
We are living in an age where many are refusing to align themselves with God. Instead, they choose to identify with the sin, darkness, and iniquity of this world in an effort to avoid offending others. This compromise is not only spiritually dangerous but also offensive to God. As believers, we are not called to blend into the world but to stand apart as witnesses of His truth and light. This teaching explores the dangers of aligning with the world, the call to separation, and the rewards of faithfulness to God.

We Are Called to Separate from Worldly Ways
"Therefore, 'Come out from among them and be separate,' says the Lord. 'Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.'" (2 Corinthians 6:17, NIV)
God’s Word is clear: His people are called to separate themselves from the sinfulness of the world. When we choose to align ourselves with worldly trends, fads, and ideologies, we offend God. He desires that we adhere to His principles and live lives that reflect His holiness. Compromise with sin, even under the guise of avoiding offense, leads to spiritual destruction.

The Dangers of Compromise
"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness." (Isaiah 5:20, NIV)
Many who claim to follow God have chosen to compromise by befriending evil and embracing practices that God has forbidden. This compromise often stems from a desire for acceptance, power, and material gain. Such individuals are not only deceiving themselves but also leading others astray. God warns us that friendship with the world is enmity with Him.

Standing for Righteousness Brings Reproach
"In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted." (2 Timothy 3:12, NIV)
Standing for righteousness in a wicked generation often invites accusations, ridicule, and persecution. The world’s values are contrary to God’s, and those who uphold His truth will face opposition. However, we are reminded that our allegiance is to God, not to the approval of men. Our commitment to righteousness must remain steadfast, even when it costs us.

The Hypocrisy of Loving the World
"These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." (Matthew 15:8, NIV)
Many religious leaders and believers have fallen into the trap of hypocrisy. They proclaim their love for God while secretly indulging in worldly pleasures and sins. This duality is detestable to God. True love for God requires total devotion and a rejection of all that dishonors Him. Hypocrisy weakens our witness and invites God’s judgment.

God’s Call to Faithfulness
"Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown." (Revelation 2:10, NIV)
In the midst of a perverse and corrupt generation, God is calling His people to remain faithful. This faithfulness involves rejecting worldly temptations, staying true to His Word, and living lives that glorify Him. Faithfulness to God is rewarded with His presence, blessings, and eternal life.

Summary
God’s people must resist the lure of the world and its sinful practices. Compromising with the world leads to spiritual destruction, but standing for righteousness brings God’s favor and eternal rewards. Though the path of faithfulness may be difficult, it is the only way to please God and fulfill our purpose.

Conclusion
As believers, we are called to be lights in the darkness, reflecting God’s truth and love to the world. This requires us to identify fully with Him, rejecting the ways of the unsaved world. Our commitment to God must be unwavering, regardless of the opposition we face. By remaining faithful, we demonstrate our love for Him and secure our place in His kingdom.

Final Word of Encouragement
God is faithful to those who remain faithful to Him. Though the journey may be challenging, His grace is sufficient. Trust in Him, walk in His ways, and you will experience His peace and joy. Remember, identifying with God is the greatest privilege and the surest path to eternal life. “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1, NIV)
