THE PURPOSE OF GOD: TRUSTING HIS LEADERSHIP AND RESTING IN HIS CARE By: Major Frank Materu
KEY SCRIPTURES
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” — Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
“For who hath despised the day of small things?” — Zechariah 4:10 (KJV)
INTRODUCTION
God has not abandoned His people. His desire is for them to know Him, trust His leadership, and live under His care. However, some people misuse spiritual responsibility for personal gain, seeking to exploit God's flock instead of serving it faithfully. Such conduct must not cause believers to lose their confidence in the Lord. Human beings may fail, but God remains faithful.
In every situation, God calls His people to seek Him first. He can guide them directly through His Word and the Holy Spirit, and He can also use trustworthy people to provide counsel, encouragement, and practical assistance. The essential principle is to keep God at the center of every decision.
This lesson reminds us to trust God's purpose, appreciate small beginnings, and surrender our burdens to Him rather than allowing the pressures of the world to overwhelm us.

SEEK GOD FIRST, FOR HE IS YOUR GUIDE
When problems arise, the first response should be to seek the Lord. People may offer advice, but no human being can replace God as the ultimate source of wisdom, direction, and hope. We must learn to pray, search the Scriptures, and trust Him to guide our decisions.
Proverbs 3:5–6 declares, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Seeking God first does not mean refusing help from others. God can work through faithful pastors, wise counsellors, family members, and other trustworthy people. However, their advice must be evaluated wisely and consistently with God's Word.
Be thankful that the Lord can guide you through uncertain circumstances. Even when you cannot see the entire path ahead, you can continue walking in faith, obedience, and prayer.
DO NOT DESPISE THE DAY OF SMALL BEGINNINGS
Many people desire greatness, public recognition, and impressive results. In pursuing these things, they sometimes neglect small beginnings and overlook the quiet work God is doing in their lives. They may value outward appearances more than faithfulness, character, and obedience.
Yet God's purposes are not measured by numbers, wealth, or public applause. Throughout Scripture, God worked through individuals and small groups to accomplish His purposes. Gideon's army was reduced before the Lord gave Israel victory, demonstrating that deliverance depended upon God's power rather than human strength (Judges 7:2–7).
Zechariah 4:10 asks, “For who hath despised the day of small things?”
Never despise a small opportunity to serve God, a modest beginning, or a quiet act of faithfulness. Learn to recognize and appreciate the blessings God gives you each day. A small step taken in obedience may become part of a greater purpose that you cannot yet see.

LET GOD CARRY YOUR BURDENS
Life brings responsibilities, uncertainties, disappointments, and challenges. When we try to carry every burden through our own strength, we can become exhausted and discouraged. God invites His people to trust Him and place their cares in His hands.
First Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
God does not intend for His people to be consumed by anxiety over matters they cannot control. He calls them to pray, trust His wisdom, and take responsible steps while leaving the outcome in His hands. Surrender is not passivity; it is faithful action without allowing worry to rule the heart.
Some answers come quickly, while others require patience. God's timing may differ from our expectations, but we can continue to seek His wisdom and remain faithful while we wait.
Philippians 4:6–7 encourages believers to bring their requests to God through prayer and thanksgiving, trusting Him to guard their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Remember that you belong to God's Kingdom. Do not allow the troubles of this world to rob you of your peace or weaken your confidence in the Lord. Give Him your burdens, follow His guidance, and trust Him one day at a time.

CONCLUSION
God's purpose is for His people to trust Him, seek His direction, and remain faithful whether their beginnings are small or their challenges are great. Do not allow the selfishness of others to turn your heart away from Him. Do not measure your spiritual life by outward greatness or human recognition.
Seek the Lord first, appreciate the small things He places in your hands, and surrender your worries to His care. He can guide you through His Word, strengthen you by His Spirit, and provide wise people to help you along the way.
CALL TO ACTION
Today, bring your concerns before God in prayer. Ask Him for wisdom, examine your decisions in the light of Scripture, and refuse to despise small beginnings. Be faithful with what you have, serve others with humility, and trust the Lord with what remains beyond your control.
FINAL WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT
You do not have to carry every burden alone. God cares for His people and invites them to trust His wisdom. Remain faithful in small things, seek Him in every situation, and allow His peace to strengthen your heart. Your confidence must rest not in human greatness but in the faithfulness of the living God.
