Introduction

Humanity today is living in a time of deep spiritual crisis, moral confusion, emotional emptiness, and increasing separation from God. Though many possess material wealth, social recognition, education, and worldly accomplishments, vast numbers remain spiritually desolate and internally tormented. The reason for this condition is that mankind was never created to exist independently from God. Humanity was designed to live in fellowship with the Creator and to experience the abundance of divine life flowing from Him.

From the beginning, Satan’s objective has been to separate humanity from God through sin, deception, selfishness, pride, and rebellion. Through sin, spiritual death entered the world and brought mankind into bondage, misery, loneliness, corruption, and eternal separation from God. Yet in His great mercy, God sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world so that humanity might be redeemed from spiritual death and restored into the abundance of eternal life.

Jesus Christ did not come merely to improve human existence temporarily. He came to deliver mankind from the dominion of sin and to impart divine life to those who believe in Him. The abundant life that Jesus offers is not centered upon material wealth, selfish ambition, worldly fame, or fleshly pleasure. Rather, it is the life of fellowship with God, holiness, peace, joy, truth, righteousness, purpose, divine love, and eternal hope.

One of the greatest dangers confronting humanity is the deception of self-love. Many people live entirely centered upon themselves, their desires, ambitions, pleasures, and worldly pursuits. Such individuals often appear outwardly successful while inwardly remaining empty, lonely, restless, and spiritually dead. Self-centered living ultimately produces spiritual desolation because it separates the soul from the love and presence of God.

This lesson explores God’s call for believers to hold steadfast to life, reject the bondage of self-love, walk in the abundance of divine life, and represent the higher-kingdom love of God to a broken and dying world. It reveals the necessity of dying to self, following the example of Jesus Christ, living in gratitude for redemption, and walking faithfully in the eternal life that God freely gives through His Son.

JESUS CHRIST CAME TO GIVE ABUNDANT LIFE

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” — John 10:10 (KJV)

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23 (KJV)

Jesus Christ came into the world with a divine mission to rescue humanity from spiritual death and bring mankind into eternal life. Sin had enslaved humanity and separated people from fellowship with God. Because of sin, mankind became spiritually empty, condemned, fearful, and destined for eternal destruction apart from divine intervention.

The mission of Jesus was therefore not merely to establish a religious system or create earthly recognition for Himself. He came to reveal the kingdom of God and demonstrate the love, mercy, holiness, and truth of the Father. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus made it possible for humanity to be forgiven, restored, and transformed.

The abundant life that Christ gives is spiritual before it is material. It is a life overflowing with peace, purpose, divine fellowship, truth, holiness, joy, and eternal hope. This abundance cannot be purchased with worldly wealth, nor can it be obtained through human achievement. It is received only through surrender to Jesus Christ and continual fellowship with Him.

Many people are physically alive while spiritually dead. They exist in emotional emptiness, fear, confusion, loneliness, and inner despair because they are separated from the life of God. Yet through salvation, believers become partakers of divine life and are brought into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

THE DANGER OF SELF-LOVE AND SPIRITUAL DEATH

“For men shall be lovers of their own selves.” — 2 Timothy 3:2 (KJV)

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” — Matthew 16:24 (KJV)

One of the greatest spiritual diseases of humanity is self-love. Self-centered living causes individuals to become absorbed with their own desires, ambitions, pleasures, recognition, and comfort while neglecting God and others. Such a lifestyle leads to spiritual emptiness because the human soul was never designed to worship self.

Those who worship self are ultimately trapped in loneliness and desolation. Even when surrounded by material riches and worldly success, they remain inwardly dissatisfied because sin cannot satisfy the eternal hunger of the soul. Self-love blinds individuals from recognizing their desperate need for God.

Jesus Christ taught that anyone who desires to follow Him must deny self and take up the cross daily. The kingdom of God operates contrary to the selfish systems of the world. In God’s kingdom, greatness is found in humility, service, surrender, sacrifice, and obedience.

When individuals refuse to die to self, they remain imprisoned in spiritual death. Selfish ambition, pride, greed, lust, and rebellion separate people from fellowship with God and prevent them from experiencing true abundant life.

The believer is therefore called to forsake the old self-life and embrace the new life found in Christ Jesus.

THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS CHRIST IN SELFLESS LOVE

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45 (KJV)

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 2:5 (KJV)

Jesus Christ perfectly demonstrated the life of surrender, humility, and selfless love. Though He was the Son of God, He did not seek earthly fame, political dominance, or worldly recognition. Instead, He humbled Himself and came to serve humanity through obedience to the Father.

Jesus spent His life healing the sick, delivering the oppressed, feeding the hungry, comforting the brokenhearted, teaching truth, and calling sinners to repentance. His entire ministry reflected divine compassion and sacrificial love.

The life of Jesus reveals the true meaning of abundant life. Abundance is not measured by possessions, wealth, or social status. True abundance is found in living according to God’s purpose and walking in fellowship with Him.

Jesus was not driven by selfish ambition or personal glory. He was completely surrendered to the will of the Father. Even unto death, He remained faithful and obedient.

Believers are called to follow His example. The Christian life is not centered upon self-promotion, selfish gain, or worldly success. Rather, it is centered upon serving God, loving others, and manifesting the kingdom love of Christ to humanity.

DO NOT LOOK BACK TO THE OLD LIFE

“Remember Lot's wife.” — Luke 17:32 (KJV)

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

God calls believers to move forward in the newness of life and never return to the bondage of the former sinful existence. The old life apart from Christ was a life of spiritual imprisonment, condemnation, emptiness, and separation from God.

Lot’s wife serves as a solemn warning against longing for the former life of sin and worldliness. Though she was being delivered from destruction, her heart remained attached to what she was leaving behind. Her backward glance revealed misplaced affection and attachment to the old life.

Many believers struggle spiritually because they continually look backward toward sinful desires, worldly pleasures, and former lifestyles. Yet true transformation requires complete surrender and separation from the old nature.

Salvation is not merely behavioral modification; it is spiritual transformation. Through Jesus Christ, believers become new creations and are called to walk according to the pattern of Christ’s life.

God desires His people to remain focused upon the eternal inheritance prepared for them rather than becoming entangled again with worldly corruption.

THE TRUE MEANING OF ABUNDANT LIFE

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.” — 1 Timothy 6:6 (KJV)

“For the love of money is the root of all evil.” — 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV)

Many have distorted the meaning of abundant life by equating it exclusively with financial prosperity, material possessions, and worldly success. Some teach that material gain itself is evidence of spirituality and divine approval. Such teachings often encourage greed, selfish ambition, and attachment to worldly things.

However, true abundant life is far deeper than material accumulation. Abundant life is fellowship with God, peace in the soul, righteousness, divine purpose, spiritual joy, holiness, wisdom, eternal hope, and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

A person may possess great earthly wealth while remaining spiritually empty and miserable. Conversely, a believer who walks closely with God may possess little materially yet overflow with peace, joy, and divine fulfillment.

God is not opposed to blessing His people materially, but material possessions must never become the focus of life. The believer’s highest treasure must always be fellowship with God and conformity to the image of Christ.

True abundance flows from surrender to God’s will rather than the pursuit of selfish desires.

REPRESENTING GOD’S LOVE TO A DYING WORLD

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” — John 13:35 (KJV)

“And of some have compassion, making a difference.” — Jude 1:22 (KJV)

The world today is starving for genuine love, truth, compassion, hope, and spiritual direction. Multitudes live in despair, loneliness, fear, confusion, and emotional brokenness because they do not know the love of God.

Believers are called to represent the higher-kingdom love of God to humanity. Through the Holy Spirit, Christians become vessels through which God ministers healing, encouragement, truth, mercy, and salvation to others.

The church must never become consumed with selfish ambition, worldly competition, or pride. Instead, believers must walk in humility, compassion, and service as representatives of Jesus Christ.

As believers surrender themselves to God daily, they become instruments through which the love of Christ reaches broken and desperate souls. God desires His people to shine brightly in a spiritually dark and dying generation.
