DO NOT BE DISTRACTED FROM HIS PURPOSE By Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

INTRODUCTION

God has called each of us with a divine purpose. His desire is for us to walk in His will, to seek first His kingdom, and to remain steadfast in faith. However, distractions come in many forms—personal ambitions, worldly temptations, trials, and challenges. The enemy desires to shift our focus away from God’s call, but we must remain anchored in His truth. This message serves as an encouragement to stay committed to God’s purpose, to trust in His ways, and to yield ourselves as vessels for His glory.

KEEP YOUR VISION SINGLE

Proverbs 4:25 - "Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you."

A divided vision leads to instability. When God calls you to a specific path, you must remain focused on Him. Do not seek validation from men or be swayed by worldly standards. Instead, keep your heart steadfast on His purpose and trust in His guidance.

THE CROSS IS THE ONLY WAY

Luke 9:23 - "Then He said to them all, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.'"

The journey to fulfilling God’s purpose is not without trials. Embrace the cross, for it is through suffering and obedience that we are made strong. Do not despise the trials He allows in your life; rather, let them shape you into a vessel fit for His use.

GOD INHABITS THE PRAISE OF HIS PEOPLE

Psalm 22:3 - "But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel."

When discouragement sets in, when trials seem unbearable, do not murmur or complain. Instead, lift up your voice in thanksgiving and praise. God dwells in the praises of His people, and when you thank Him, His presence fills your life with peace and strength.

THE PRINCIPLE OF REPENTANCE

2 Chronicles 7:14 - "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Repentance is a key principle in maintaining a right relationship with God. When we humble ourselves before Him, confess our sins, and forgive others, we remain in His presence and receive His cleansing grace.

BROKEN CISTERNS WILL FAIL

Jeremiah 2:13 - "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water."

Many attempt to find fulfillment outside of God, building their lives on worldly principles that cannot sustain them. Only by drinking from the living waters of Christ can we truly be satisfied.

TRUE RICHES COME FROM SEEKING GOD

Matthew 6:19-20 - "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven."

The riches of this world are fleeting, but those who seek after God will receive true and lasting riches—both spiritual and eternal.

DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR OWN WAY

Proverbs 14:12 - "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."

God’s way is perfect, but our human nature often seeks shortcuts or alternative paths. True discipleship requires surrendering our plans and desires to follow God’s way completely.

SALVATION PRAYER

If you have not yet given your life to Christ, now is the time. Say this prayer with sincerity:

Heavenly Father, I come before You, acknowledging that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for my sins, and that He rose again. Today, I surrender my life to You. Forgive me, cleanse me, and make me new. I accept You as my Lord and Savior. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and guide me in Your ways. In Jesus' name, Amen.
