INTRODUCTION

The church of Jesus Christ is called to holiness, truth, and obedience to the Living God. It exists to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and glorify Jesus Christ—not to promote greed, deception, pride, or worldly ambition. When worldly values dominate a church, religious activities may continue while genuine devotion to God declines.

A church may have impressive buildings, influential leaders, large congregations, and substantial financial resources, yet lack spiritual integrity. Religious appearances cannot replace repentance, and public ministry cannot substitute for private obedience. God examines the heart and calls His people to return to Him sincerely.

This lesson confronts worldly compromise, religious hypocrisy, financial exploitation, and disobedience. It calls believers to examine themselves, reject ungodliness, and pursue genuine spiritual renewal through Jesus Christ. The central question is not whether we claim to know God, but whether our lives demonstrate submission to His Word.

REJECT WORLDLY INFLUENCE AND RETURN TO CHRIST

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” — 1 John 2:15 (KJV)

Worldly influence becomes dangerous when money, pleasure, popularity, and human recognition become more important than obedience to God. The church must not measure spiritual success merely by numbers, buildings, or financial achievements. Genuine spiritual maturity is demonstrated through holiness, humility, truth, and faithfulness.

Sodom and Egypt remind us of the dangers of wickedness, oppression, and rebellion against God. Believers must reject every sinful influence that draws their hearts away from Him. The answer to spiritual compromise is repentance, not excuses or religious performances.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” — James 4:8 (KJV)

Return to Jesus Christ wholeheartedly. Surrender your desires, ambitions, relationships, and decisions to His authority. God calls His people to be transformed by His truth, not conformed to the corruption around them.

REPENTANCE IS THE GATEWAY TO RENEWAL

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” — Acts 3:19 (KJV)

Repentance means turning away from sin and returning to God. It requires acknowledging wrongdoing, abandoning sinful practices, and submitting to His Word. Many desire blessings without correction, spiritual power without holiness, and forgiveness without transformation. Such attitudes contradict the purpose of God's grace.

True repentance addresses pride, greed, dishonesty, immorality, unforgiveness, and hypocrisy. No religious title exempts anyone from accountability. Pastors, teachers, ministry leaders, and church members must all submit to God's truth.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9 (KJV)

Salvation is God's gift through Jesus Christ, not a reward earned through good works. Nevertheless, genuine repentance produces a changed life. God offers forgiveness and restoration to those who sincerely turn to Him.

RELIGIOUS APPEARANCES CANNOT REPLACE GODLINESS

“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” — 2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV)

Religious activity can conceal spiritual emptiness. People may preach, pray, lead worship, and collect offerings while refusing to obey God privately. Jesus condemned religious hypocrisy because it seeks human approval instead of God's righteousness.

Churches must examine their teaching, leadership, financial practices, and treatment of people. Leaders must demonstrate integrity, humility, and accountability. A ministry becomes spiritually dangerous when personalities are glorified, members are manipulated, and the Gospel is used to serve private interests.

Not every successful church is corrupt, nor is every request for financial support exploitative. The real test is whether a ministry remains faithful to Scripture and serves people honestly.

“For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.” — 2 Corinthians 4:5 (KJV)

True ministry exalts Jesus Christ, protects the vulnerable, teaches the truth, and produces godly character. Religious performance without obedience cannot please God.

REJECT GREED AND FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION

“For the love of money is the root of all evil.” — 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV)

Money can support legitimate ministry, but greed corrupts spiritual leadership when financial gain becomes the primary objective. No one should manipulate believers with false promises of guaranteed miracles, wealth, healing, or protection in exchange for payments.

Christian giving must be sincere, voluntary, and motivated by love for God.

“For God loveth a cheerful giver.” — 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV)

Church leaders must manage offerings transparently and use funds responsibly. Believers should be free to ask reasonable questions about financial stewardship without intimidation.

God's favour cannot be purchased, and giving does not force Him to fulfil human desires. The church must reject financial deception and demonstrate integrity in every transaction. Those entrusted with God's people must never exploit their trust for personal enrichment.

COME OUT OF SPIRITUAL COMPROMISE

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV)

God calls believers to reject practices that contradict His Word. Their highest allegiance belongs to Jesus Christ, not to a religious institution or human leader.

Separation from ungodliness does not mean hating people or abandoning society. Christians must love others, proclaim the Gospel, and serve their communities without participating in sin.

Where a religious environment persistently promotes deception, protects abuse, or demands disobedience to Scripture, believers must seek wise counsel and take appropriate steps to remain faithful to God.

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (KJV)

Do not rely on rumours or careless accusations. Examine teachings and conduct against Scripture, pursue accountability, and protect those at risk. Genuine repentance should be encouraged, but continuing wrongdoing must not be concealed to preserve an institution's reputation.

The purpose of separation is faithfulness to Christ, not pride or condemnation. God's people must remain holy while serving as a light to the world.

SEEK THE HOLY SPIRIT AND TRUE RENEWAL

“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” — Zechariah 4:6 (KJV)

Genuine spiritual renewal comes from God. The Holy Spirit convicts people of sin, guides them into truth, and empowers them to live faithfully. A fresh experience of God's presence must produce more than emotional excitement; it must lead to transformed character and obedience.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” — Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV)

Prayer, worship, fasting, and spiritual gifts are valuable when exercised in accordance with Scripture. They must never become substitutes for holiness or instruments of manipulation.

Seek God with a sincere heart. Allow His Word to correct your attitudes, relationships, and conduct. Genuine renewal glorifies Jesus Christ, strengthens believers, and equips the church to proclaim the Gospel faithfully.

OBEDIENCE IS THE PATHWAY OF SPIRITUAL LIFE

“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.” — Isaiah 1:19 (KJV)

Obedience demonstrates genuine faith. Knowing Scripture is insufficient if we continually refuse to practise it. No personal desire, cultural tradition, or human authority can justify deliberate disobedience to God's commands.

Salvation is received through faith in Jesus Christ, not earned through good works. However, genuine faith produces a life that increasingly reflects His character.

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” — John 14:15 (KJV)

Obedience includes honesty, sexual integrity, forgiveness, responsible stewardship, compassion, and faithfulness in daily responsibilities. It also means refusing to follow religious leaders when their instructions contradict Scripture.

Those who obey God may still encounter suffering and opposition, but they can remain confident in His wisdom and faithfulness. True spiritual life is found in fellowship with Jesus Christ and perseverance in His truth.

EXAMINE YOUR HEART BEFORE JUDGING OTHERS

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.” — 2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV)

Before exposing the failures of others, examine your own heart. You may recognize hypocrisy in a church while ignoring pride, dishonesty, anger, or unforgiveness in your own life.

Ask yourself: Am I obeying God? Are my motives pure? Do I welcome correction? Does my conduct reflect Jesus Christ?

“Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” — John 7:24 (KJV)

This does not mean ignoring wrongdoing. Serious misconduct must be addressed truthfully, with credible evidence and appropriate accountability. However, discernment must never become an excuse for hatred, pride, or false accusations.

God desires truth accompanied by humility. Begin with your own repentance, then pursue righteousness and accountability wherever they are needed.
