Faith Over Doubt: Trusting in God’s Power By: Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: Mark 11:23 - "Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them."

Introduction:

Faith is the cornerstone of our relationship with God. It is through faith that we experience the fullness of His promises, walk in His divine purpose, and stand firm in times of trouble. Doubt, on the other hand, is a tool of the enemy designed to rob us of the blessings of faith. When we allow doubt to take root, we invite fear, despair, and spiritual weakness into our lives. God has called us to walk by faith and not be swayed by the circumstances surrounding us. In this study, we will explore the power of faith, the dangers of doubt, and how to remain steadfast in trusting God.

The Power of Faith

Hebrews 11:1 - "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."

Faith is not based on what we see but on what we believe in God’s promises. Those who trust in the Lord will see His mighty hand at work in their lives. Faith enables believers to overcome challenges, receive divine provision, and experience supernatural breakthroughs. Abraham, the father of faith, believed in God’s promises even when it seemed impossible (Romans 4:20-21). Likewise, we must hold onto God’s word with unwavering trust.

The Dangers of Doubt

James 1:6-7 - "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord."

Doubt is a weapon of the enemy that leads to spiritual instability. When we give in to doubt, we open doors for fear, worry, and unbelief to take control. The Israelites failed to enter the Promised Land because of their doubt and unbelief (Numbers 14:1-4). Doubt leads to missed blessings, delays in breakthroughs, and spiritual defeat. As believers, we must guard our hearts against doubt and renew our minds with God’s word.

Overcoming Doubt Through Faith in God

Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

To overcome doubt, we must:

• Stand on God’s promises.

• Spend time in prayer and worship.

• Meditate on the Word of God.

• Surround ourselves with faith-filled believers.

• Rebuke the enemy’s lies and replace them with the truth of scripture.

When we keep our faith strong, the enemy’s attacks lose their power, and we walk in divine confidence.

Faith in the Midst of Trials

2 Corinthians 5:7 - "For we live by faith, not by sight."

Life’s trials and challenges are inevitable, but faith keeps us anchored in God’s truth. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to doubt, and God delivered them from the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:16-28). Likewise, when we stand firm in faith, God’s power will manifest in our lives. Trials test our faith, but they also refine us and draw us closer to God.

Summary Faith is essential for every believer, while doubt is a dangerous tool of the enemy. When we place our complete trust in God, we experience His supernatural provision and protection. Doubt leads to spiritual weakness, missed opportunities, and separation from God’s promises. By standing on God’s word, engaging in prayer, and resisting the enemy’s lies, we can live victorious lives full of faith.

Conclusion God desires His people to walk in unwavering faith. He is faithful to His promises, and when we trust in Him completely, we will not be disappointed. The enemy seeks to sow doubt, but we must resist him and stand firm in faith. God is calling us to live in the confidence of His word, knowing that He is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).

Salvation Prayer If you have not yet given your life to Jesus Christ, today is the day of salvation. Pray this prayer with sincerity:

Heavenly Father, I come before You in the Name of Jesus. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I need Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I repent of my sins and invite Jesus into my heart to be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I commit my life to You. Thank You for saving me and making me Your child. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
