HOW TO ENDURE HARDSHIP By Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture:
“Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” – 2 Timothy 2:3
Introduction
Life in Christ is not without challenges. As believers, we are called to endure troubles and persevere in our faith.
The path to victory often leads through hardships, and it is through trials that our faith is tested and strengthened.
In this article, we explore how to endure troubles and trials while remaining steadfast in our calling as soldiers of Christ.
The Call to Endure
The apostle Paul encourages believers to endure hardship like a good soldier. This means we must be prepared for difficult times, knowing that Christ has called us to a higher purpose. Troubles are a part of the journey, but they are not the end. We must face them with courage and faith, knowing that God is with us in every trial.
"Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus."
– 2 Timothy 2:3
Standing Firm in the Truth
As followers of Christ, we are chosen to be witnesses of the truth. The truth of God often offends the world, and it is through our proclamation of this truth that others may be convicted of their sins. People may not always understand or accept the message, but we must remain faithful in sharing it.
"And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
– Mark 16:17-18
Embracing Shame and Rejection
It is often through rejection and shame that we grow in our faith. The world may reject us, but we must not be ashamed to suffer for the sake of Christ.
This is part of our calling: to endure rejection, ridicule, and suffering with joy, knowing that our reward is in heaven.
"But whoever loses their life for me will find it."
– Matthew 16:25
The Narrow Path
The path of righteousness is not easy. Jesus himself said that the road to life is narrow and difficult. We must be ready to walk this path, even when it leads to trials and hardships. Like John the Baptist, who boldly proclaimed the truth in the wilderness, we too must be willing to endure hardship in the name of Christ.
"Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him."
– Mark 1:3
The Strength to Endure
Endurance in the faith requires strength that comes from God alone. There will be times when we feel weak, but it is in those moments that God gives us the strength to press on. Our confidence is not in our own ability, but in the power of God to strengthen and sustain us.
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
– Philippians 4:13
The Example of John the Baptist
John the Baptist is a powerful example of enduring hardships for the sake of the gospel. He did not choose an easy life. He lived in the wilderness, and his message was one of repentance and preparation for the coming of the Lord. He faced rejection and persecution, yet he remained steadfast in his mission.
"John came, baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins."
– Mark 1:4
Living with Purpose
In times of trouble, it is important to remember that God has a purpose for our lives. Our troubles are not random or meaningless; they are part of God’s plan to refine us and prepare us for greater things. We must endure with faith, knowing that God is working all things together for our good.
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
– Jeremiah 29:11
Conclusion
As believers, we are called to endure troubles with strength and courage, just as a soldier endures the hardships of battle.
Through our trials, God shapes us into the people He has called us to be. Let us embrace our calling to endure, knowing that we do not face our struggles alone. God is with us, and He will strengthen us to overcome.
"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
– Isaiah 41:10
Endure in the faith, for your reward is in heaven.
