How to Bear with One Another By Major Frank Materu

Key Bible Scripture:

"For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there." – James 3:16

Introduction

In the Christian faith, one of the key aspects of living together in harmony is the ability to bear with one another.

The Bible encourages us to love, support, and help each other through our struggles, understanding that we all face weaknesses and challenges. As we grow in Christ, we are called to embody humility, patience, and kindness toward our brothers and sisters in Christ, especially in times of conflict or difficulty.

Avoiding Envy and Selfishness

Scripture Reference: James 3:16

James 3:16 highlights the destructive nature of envy and selfish ambition. These attitudes open the door to confusion and every evil work. When we observe these behaviors in others, especially within the church, we must remember that they are bound by these struggles, and it is God who has the power to set them free. As believers, we should not look down on others who may be struggling with pride or selfishness. Instead, we should offer grace and support, recognizing that their struggles are the same as our own.

Avoiding Hypocrisy

Scripture Reference: Matthew 23:28

In Matthew 23:28, Jesus warns against hypocrisy, saying that while people may appear righteous on the outside, their hearts are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. Many who claim to be followers of Christ walk in deception, covering themselves with the ways of the world instead of the ways of God's kingdom. We are called to be authentic in our faith, allowing our inner hearts to align with the outward expression of our faith. If we are to help others, we must first ensure that our own hearts are right before God.

Being a Light in the Darkness

Scripture Reference: Matthew 5:14-16

How can we be a light to those in darkness if we ourselves are still in darkness? Jesus calls us to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16), but this can only happen if we separate ourselves from the world and walk in His light.

To bear with others, we must first ensure that we are living as children of light, showing the way to others through our words and actions. Our light should shine so brightly that others are drawn to the hope and freedom found in Christ.

Bearing One Another’s Burdens

Scripture Reference: Galatians 6:2

In Galatians 6:2, we are urged to bear one another's burdens and thus fulfill the law of Christ. We are not meant to carry our burdens alone, and we should not allow others to carry theirs alone either.

As we walk in humility, we are called to help those who are struggling, just as God has helped us in our times of need. We should bear each other's weaknesses with compassion, never looking down on them but offering support and encouragement along the way.

God Uses the Weak to Confound the Strong

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 1:26-28

In 1 Corinthians 1:26-28, Paul reminds us that God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the wise, and the foolish things of the world to shame the strong.

Those who seem insignificant in the eyes of the world are often chosen by God to show His glory. We must not think highly of ourselves or boast in our own abilities. It is God who has chosen us, and it is His strength that sustains us. As we learn to bear with others, we must recognize that God can use even the weak and lowly to bring about His perfect will.

Enduring Trials for the Crown of Life

Scripture Reference: James 1:12

James 1:12 says, "Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him." Enduring trials is not easy, but it is through overcoming challenges that we prove our faith and develop spiritual maturity.

We are called to persevere through the trials of life, knowing that God will reward our endurance with eternal life. It is through trials that our true character is refined, and we grow in Christlikeness.

Do Not Be Unequally Yoked

Scripture Reference: 2 Corinthians 6:14-15

In 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, Paul warns against being unequally yoked with unbelievers. Believers and non-believers are fundamentally different, and their values, beliefs, and actions will not align.

It is important to avoid partnerships or relationships that compromise our faith. When we seek counsel, we must ensure that it comes from those who are in alignment with God's will. Only then can we remain strong in our faith and continue to bear with one another in love.

Rejoicing in God’s Judgment and Righteousness

Scripture Reference: Psalms 119:164

In Psalms 119:164, the psalmist rejoices in God's righteous judgments. As believers, we should also rejoice when God's justice prevails, knowing that He is working all things for our good. In times of trial, it is important to remember that God's judgment is perfect, and His righteousness is always true.

As we bear with one another, we should remind ourselves that God's will is being accomplished, even in the midst of challenges and hardships.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Bible calls us to bear with one another in love, offering grace and support through each other's weaknesses and struggles.

As we walk in humility and authenticity, allowing God's light to shine through us, we fulfill the law of Christ by bearing each other’s burdens.

We must remember that it is not by our own strength that we endure, but by God's power and grace. Through trials, we are refined, and through love, we reflect His glory.

Let us be a people who bear one another’s burdens, walking in the light of Christ, and fulfilling His purpose for our lives.
