God’s Guidance - Part 2 By Major Frank Materu
"Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
(Colossians 3:12–17, NIV)
Introduction
God, in His infinite wisdom and love, provides us with guidance to keep us on the right path. He understands the rebellious tendencies of the flesh and knows the death and destruction that await those who ignore His instructions. God’s guidance is not a burden but a shield, a light, and a source of life for those who obey Him.
Why God Gives Us Guidance
God's instructions are designed to protect us, not limit us. He sees the dangers that our flesh and limited understanding cannot comprehend. Often, we are quick to discard His guidance, trusting instead in our own wisdom and understanding.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
(Proverbs 3:5–6, NIV)
When we reject God’s guidance, we abandon the very foundation that sustains us. Following our own instincts leads to death and destruction.
"There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death."
(Proverbs 14:12, NIV)
The Consequences of Ignoring God’s Guidance
Those who neglect God's instructions expose themselves to spiritual and physical dangers.
- Spiritual Death
- When we let the flesh dominate and disregard God’s Word, the wages of sin become evident: death.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
(Romans 6:23, NIV)
- Deception by Self-Reliance
- Many begin their journey with God but fall away because they rely on their own understanding rather than following His leading. Their path becomes dark and leads to destruction.
- Generational Impact
- Rejecting God’s guidance not only affects individuals but also their descendants. Parents who fail to walk in God’s ways may lead their children into the same path of destruction.
The Blessing of Walking in God’s Ways
God's guidance is a testament to His mercy, love, and goodness.
- Protection from Evil
"He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."
(Psalm 91:4, NIV)
- Sustenance and Provision
- For those who remain obedient and thankful, God provides everything they need. He renews His mercy daily for the grateful heart.
- Generational Blessing
- Walking faithfully in God’s ways brings life not only to us but also to our children. Obedience paves the way for generational blessings and divine favor.
The Power of Praise and Gratitude
There is great power in praising God and giving Him thanks.
- Victory Over the Enemy
- God dwells in the praises of His people. When we lift Him up in praise, His presence overcomes the plans of the enemy.
"But you are holy, you who inhabit the praises of Israel."
(Psalm 22:3, KJV)
- Unleashing God’s Power
- Many battles are lost because of a failure to praise God wholeheartedly. When we glorify Him, He fights on our behalf and brings victory.
Conclusion
God’s guidance is a precious gift meant to lead us into life, victory, and blessings. In a world where many have abandoned His ways and embraced destruction, we are called to stand firm in obedience and gratitude.
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
(Psalm 119:105, NIV)
Let us walk in His ways with thankful hearts, trusting His love and wisdom to lead us through every challenge.
As we follow His guidance, we will see His victory manifest in our lives and the lives of those who come after us.
"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’"
(Isaiah 30:21, NIV)
