CALLED TO FEED THE HUNGRY By Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: Matthew 25:35 "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in."

INTRODUCTION

God has called His people to feed the hungry. There are those who are filled with the things of this world, indulging in selfishness and ungodliness, having no hunger for righteousness. Yet, God has set apart His people to feed those who are truly hungry—the ones who thirst for His truth and long for His presence. We must not waste time trying to satisfy those who have no hunger for God, but rather, we should focus on those who earnestly seek Him. This is our divine commission.

FEEDING THE HUNGRY

Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled."

God has not called us to feed those who are already full, who indulge in the pleasures of the world, and reject His truth. Instead, He calls us to feed the spiritually hungry—the ones who crave the living bread. Those who truly seek God will receive His Word with gratitude, but those who are filled with worldly distractions will despise it. We must keep our eyes on the fields, for the harvest is plentiful, and the truly hungry are waiting to be fed.

DESPISE NOT HUMILITY, FOR IT IS YOUR SAFEGUARD

Proverbs 11:2 "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."

Pride separates people from God, but humility draws Him near. The proud and self-sufficient have no room for God, yet He delights in the humble who seek His counsel. Many reject Jesus because He did not come in the form they expected. They desired a mighty king, not a humble servant. Even today, many reject Him because they do not recognize His ways. Humility is a safeguard, protecting us from spiritual blindness and keeping us close to the heart of God.

GOD IS YOUR PURPOSE

Colossians 1:16 "All things have been created through Him and for Him."

We exist because of God's mercy and for His purpose. Without Him, we would be lost in sin and destruction. Since He has redeemed us, our lives should be dedicated to His service. We must live joyfully and purposefully, knowing that our ultimate reason for existence is to glorify Him.

HIS APPEARING

Matthew 24:44 "So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

Many miss God's appearing because they only look for external signs. They do not seek Him in their hearts but only in outward manifestations. However, those who are spiritually attuned will recognize His presence and experience His glory. We must remain watchful, seeking Him sincerely, so we do not miss His coming.

DRY BONES SHALL LIVE

Ezekiel 37:5 "This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life."

Many are spiritually dead, lost in sin and without the breath of life. Yet, God has the power to revive dry bones, to restore those who are broken, and to bring new life. His Spirit calls the dead to awaken, and as His people, we must speak His life-giving Word to those in need.

GREAT TROOPS OF MOCKERS

2 Peter 3:3 "Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires."

Mockers and scoffers surround us, rejecting God's truth and following their own desires. However, God will always preserve a faithful remnant who believe in Him and stand firm in His Word. We must remain steadfast, not swayed by the world's mockery, but anchored in His truth.

BROKEN PEOPLE

Psalm 51:17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."

God desires His people to be broken, just as bread is broken to feed the hungry. When we surrender to Him, He fills us with His Spirit and makes us vessels of His grace. Through our brokenness, He ministers to others, bringing healing and restoration.

SUMMARY

God has called us to feed the hungry—the spiritually needy who long for His truth. Pride and self-sufficiency hinder people from receiving God, but humility allows us to embrace His presence. As we live for His purpose, we must remain watchful for His appearing and be vessels of His life-giving Spirit. Though many scoff at the truth, God sustains those who trust in Him. Brokenness before God leads to true wholeness.

CONCLUSION

The world is full of people who are spiritually dead, yet God calls us to be His instruments of life and restoration. We must feed the hungry, humble ourselves, seek His presence, and remain steadfast in our faith. God desires broken vessels that He can use for His glory.
