EXCUSE MAKERS ARE FAKERS! By Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: Luke 14:18 (KJV) - "And they all with one consent began to make excuse..."

Introduction

In life, many are called by the voice of God, yet they refuse to listen. Instead of heeding His call, they offer excuses and justifications for their disobedience. They deceive themselves, imagining that their excuses are legitimate, but in reality, they are merely faking their commitment to God. This behavior is a dangerous trap that leads to spiritual decline and eventual destruction.

God desires that His people walk uprightly in His way, but excuses and rebellion hinder this path. Those who continually put off obedience are not merely delaying but are actively rebelling against God's will. True believers must be careful not to fall into the trap of excuse-making, as it ultimately leads to separation from God and His blessings.

Excuses Are a Sign of Rebellion

1 Samuel 15:23 - "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry..."

Many people justify their disobedience with clever reasoning, but God is not fooled. Excuses are often a cover for rebellion, and rebellion always leads to separation from God. Just as King Saul lost his throne because of disobedience, so too do many lose their spiritual standing when they persist in making excuses.

The Danger of Delayed Obedience

James 4:17 - "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

Some believe they can obey God at their convenience, but delayed obedience is still disobedience. When God calls, He expects an immediate response. The more we delay, the harder our hearts become, making it increasingly difficult to return to Him.

Rebellion Brings Suffering

Isaiah 1:19-20 - "If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword..."

Many people suffer unnecessary hardships because of their refusal to obey God. Some experience sickness, broken relationships, and financial troubles, all because they chose their own way instead of God's. The nations that turn away from God also face calamities and unrest as a direct consequence of their rebellion.

The Blessings of Obedience

Deuteronomy 28:1-2 - "And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments... that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth."

Unlike those who suffer due to rebellion, those who obey God experience His blessings. They are guided by His Spirit, protected from harm, and provided with everything they need. When we choose to walk in obedience, we align ourselves with God's purpose and experience the joy and peace that come with it.

Summary

Excuse makers are fakers who deceive themselves, thinking that they can justify their disobedience before God. In reality, excuses are a sign of rebellion, and rebellion brings suffering. Delayed obedience is still disobedience, and those who persist in it will experience spiritual, physical, and emotional hardships. On the other hand, those who obey God immediately and completely will enjoy His blessings and favor.

Conclusion

God is calling His people to obedience without excuses. He desires full commitment, not half-hearted service. Those who continue to make excuses risk losing out on His promises and suffering the consequences of their rebellion. It is far better to obey God and enjoy His blessings than to rebel and experience hardship.
