WAITING ON THE LORD By Major. Frank Materu
Key Verse:
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.” – Psalm 37:7
Introduction:
The Living God desires people who are patient and steadfast, those who understand the significance of waiting on Him.
In today’s fast paced world, many have lost the art of waiting on the Lord, choosing instead to rush through life, driven by selfish desires and anxiety.
This article explores the importance of waiting on God with patience, serving Him in humility, and avoiding the pitfalls of pursuing personal ambitions without His guidance.
A Generation Without Patience:
1. Rushing in Vain
– Many people rush into their endeavors without seeking God’s will, bringing unnecessary troubles upon themselves.
2. Fruitless Works
– Those who rely on their own efforts, instead of God’s Spirit, produce works that ultimately displease Him.
3.Seeking Human Approval
– Instead of serving God in humility, people seek to impress others, chasing personal glory rather than honoring the Lord.
Scripture:
Matthew 23:12 "For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."
The Meaning of Waiting on the Lord.
God desires His people to wait on Him patiently and obediently:
Obeying His Commands
– Waiting for His instructions instead of following our own desires.
Working with Diligence
– Serving Him with a heart of humility and reverence.
Building with Eternal Value
– Offering God what is precious and Spiritled rather than vain efforts.
Scripture:
Isaiah 40:31 "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
The Consequences of Running Ahead of God:
1. Fruitless Labor
– Efforts driven by pride and selfish ambition end up as rubble before God.
2. SelfDestruction
– Those who seek to steal God’s glory ultimately bring ruin upon themselves.
3. Missing God’s Blessings
– Failing to wait on God leads to missed opportunities to be part of His perfect plan.
Scripture:
Jeremiah 17:56
"Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord."
The Spirit of Servanthood:
God seeks people with a servant’s heart, ready to obey His commands faithfully:
Learning to Wait
– Those who wait on God develop a deeper relationship with Him.
Faithful Stewardship
– Like servants awaiting their master’s instructions, God’s people must be prepared to obey Him wholeheartedly.
Humility Before God.
– Through patience and submission, we allow God to guide us into greater works.
Scripture:
Psalm 123:2
"As the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us his mercy."
God and Those Who Wait Patiently:
God exalts those who patiently wait for Him:
He Provides Guidance
– He reveals His plans to those who wait on Him.
He Grants Success
– He blesses those who serve Him with pure hearts.
He Fills Them with His Spirit.
– Those who wait on Him receive renewed strength for their service.
Scripture:
Psalm 27:14
"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
God’s Work is Marked by Patience and Humility:
God is not impressed by loud displays or self promotion.
Instead, He seeks faithful, patient, and diligent individuals.
Those who listen to God and wait on Him will never be put to shame; their work will endure forever.
Scripture:
1 Peter 5:6
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time."
Conclusion:
God calls this generation to wait on Him with patience, to seek His guidance, and to act in humility.
Do not run ahead of God with selfish ambition and pride.
Instead:
