WHERE WE GO WRONG WITH GOD By Major. Frank Materu

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. – Isaiah 55:8

In this reflection, we explore the ways we often fall short in our relationship with God.

Frequently, disappointment arises when we don’t achieve perfection or the ideal outcome we imagined as God’s will.

But how can we truly understand God’s will, and how has He led us toward what He desires as perfect? God calls us not to despair but to trust in His guidance, even when outcomes differ from our expectations.

1. Misunderstanding God’s Will

Often, we assume to know God’s will based on our own expectations and desires.

We long for our plans to succeed and become discouraged when things don’t go as planned, feeling frustrated or even angry with God.

But God’s ways are higher than our ways:

"For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?"– Romans 11:34

Instead of growing disheartened by broken plans, God calls us to gather the remaining pieces and trust that they can still form something meaningful and whole in His sight.

What we see as failure, God can transform into new life.

Even if our ideal vision shatters, we are invited to gather the fragments, for they too can become the Bread of Life.

2. Embracing God’s Sovereignty

Let God be God in your life.

Release control, allowing Him to give and to take away according to His perfect timing and purpose.

We may feel disappointment in incomplete visions or unrealized plans, but God’s wisdom is greater than our own:

"The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised." – Job 1:21

When we surrender our desires and ambitions to God, He brings completeness that surpasses anything we could envision on our own.

True fulfillment lies in letting go and trusting that He will bring forth perfection in His time.

3. God Speaks to His People

God is not distant or silent; He speaks to His people in a still, small voice and calls us as He chooses.

When we draw near to seek Him, He is faithful to guide and counsel us:

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." – John 10:27

The key is to seek God’s guidance daily.

However, many become so focused on their own ambitions that they forget to seek God’s wisdom.

They attempt to build their own kingdoms, filling their lives with religious displays and busyness, but this leads to emptiness and disconnection from God’s truth:

"Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain." – Psalm 127:1

4. Seeking God’s Counsel and Wisdom

People often fail to seek God’s counsel in their personal endeavors.

Instead of pausing to receive God’s direction, they are driven by their own agendas, rushing to build their own kingdom rather than God’s. In doing so, they become disconnected from the true purpose of their lives:

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." – James 1:5

True wisdom comes from God alone. Those who build in their strength will not find lasting fulfillment, but those who seek God will find their purpose in Him.

5. Surrendering Our Plans to God:

Instead of creating our own path, we are called to surrender fully to God’s direction. Let us allow Him to take charge, seeking His guidance in every step.

When we yield our will to God, He will lead us on a path that fulfills His plan for our lives.

"In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."– Proverbs 3:6

Conclusion:

To walk with God is to embrace both His sovereignty and His grace.

We may not always understand why things happen, but we can trust that God’s plan is higher and better than our own.

In our struggles and disappointments, let us gather the broken pieces and trust God to create something beautiful.

Seek His voice, surrender your plans, and walk in faith.

"He has made everything beautiful in its time." – Ecclesiastes 3:11
