“And the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.” — 2 Chronicles 5:14 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION
God desires His glory to fill His temple and His people to live in His presence. He is not interested in empty religious activities, outward appearances, or people who merely mention His name without sincerely seeking Him. He desires a people who humble themselves before Him, consecrate their lives, and wait upon Him with genuine hearts. When God's people turn away from distractions and seek Him in spirit and truth, they prepare themselves to experience His presence and follow His purposes.
In the Scriptures, the glory of God was revealed when His people gathered to honour Him and the house of the Lord was dedicated to His service. His presence was not something they could manufacture through human effort or outward display. They had to recognize His holiness, honour His instructions, and depend upon Him. In the same way, believers today must not confuse religious activity with genuine fellowship with God. Calling ourselves God's people is not enough if our hearts remain devoted to worldly desires.
Many people spend their time pursuing the ways of the world while neglecting prayer, repentance, and consecration. They desire spiritual power without spiritual surrender and expect to walk in the Spirit while continually feeding the desires of the flesh. God calls His people to turn away from such divided devotion. We must seek Him earnestly, humble ourselves before Him, and allow His truth to govern our lives. Our desire should be that His presence would shape our worship, transform our character, and lead us into the fulfilment of His will.

WAIT UPON THE LORD FOR HIS GLORY
God desires His people to wait upon Him rather than rushing ahead in their own strength. Waiting upon the Lord involves prayer, trust, humility, and readiness to obey His instructions. It is an expression of dependence upon Him, acknowledging that His presence and direction are more important than human activity. We must not be satisfied with gatherings and religious programmes that leave no room for sincere seeking of God.
“And when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.” — 2 Chronicles 7:1 (KJV)
When Solomon dedicated the temple, God's glory was manifested in a remarkable way. This account reminds us that the Lord deserves reverence and that His presence is not an ordinary matter. We cannot command God to reveal Himself according to our preferences, nor can we produce His glory through outward excitement. Our responsibility is to honour Him, follow His Word, and seek Him with sincere hearts.
Waiting upon God also requires patience. Sometimes people become discouraged because they expect immediate answers or visible manifestations. However, genuine devotion is not measured by how quickly we receive what we desire. We must continue praying and obeying because God is worthy of our faithfulness. Let us seek His presence with humility, trusting His wisdom and timing.

CONSECRATE YOURSELF TO THE LORD
God desires a people who have set themselves apart for His purposes. Consecration means surrendering our lives to Him and turning away from practices that contradict His holiness. It involves our thoughts, attitudes, speech, conduct, relationships, and priorities. We cannot sincerely ask God to fill our lives while deliberately reserving areas of our hearts for disobedience.
“Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.” — Leviticus 20:7 (KJV)
Many people want the benefits of belonging to God without accepting the responsibility of living according to His Word. They want His protection but resist His correction. They desire His blessings but remain unwilling to abandon sinful habits. Such divided devotion prevents spiritual maturity because the heart continues to pursue competing desires.
Consecration requires honest repentance. We must allow the Word of God to expose what is wrong and be willing to change. This does not mean that we earn God's presence through personal perfection. Rather, because He is holy and has called us to Himself, we must respond to His grace with sincere obedience.
Let us not give our best energy to worldly pursuits while offering God only what remains. Our time, abilities, resources, and decisions should honour Him. As we surrender ourselves to His authority, our lives become more useful for His purposes, and our worship becomes an expression of genuine devotion.

DO NOT MERELY PROFESS GOD'S NAME
There is a difference between mentioning the name of the Lord and living in faithful relationship with Him. Some people speak religious words, participate in Christian activities, and publicly identify themselves as believers, yet their lives remain governed by worldly desires. God is not deceived by outward appearances. He looks at the heart and calls His people to demonstrate their faith through obedience.
“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” — Matthew 15:8 (KJV)
The danger of empty religion is that it creates a false sense of security. People may assume that because they attend church or know biblical language, they are walking faithfully with God. However, genuine faith must affect how we live. It should produce repentance, love for truth, humility, and a willingness to obey the Lord.
We must examine ourselves rather than judging our spiritual condition by appearances or comparing ourselves with others. Are our private lives consistent with our public confession? Do we seek God when no one is watching? Are we willing to abandon what displeases Him, even when doing so is difficult?
God calls us to sincerity. Let our worship be more than words, and let our devotion be more than outward performance. We must seek His presence with hearts that genuinely desire to know Him and follow His ways.

TURN AWAY FROM THE WAYS OF SODOM AND EGYPT
The references to Sodom and Egypt remind us of worldly patterns that oppose God's will. Sodom represents grave wickedness and rebellion against God's standards, while Egypt often symbolizes bondage and reliance upon worldly power rather than trusting the Lord. God's people must not seek spiritual life while willingly returning to influences that draw them away from His truth.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2 (KJV)
The world continually offers attractions that compete for our attention. Pride, imitation, rivalry, self-exaltation, and the pursuit of recognition can gradually take the place of sincere devotion. People may become more concerned with impressing others than pleasing God. When this happens, spiritual life is weakened because the heart becomes occupied with outward display instead of inward transformation.
Believers must exercise discernment concerning the influences they accept. Not everything that appears impressive, popular, or spiritual is consistent with Scripture. We must test teachings and practices against God's Word rather than following them simply because many people embrace them. Our standard must be the truth of God, not the approval of the surrounding culture.
Turning away from worldly patterns requires deliberate choices. We must reject whatever encourages sin, nourishes pride, or distracts us from seeking the Lord. Let us not imitate conduct that contradicts His holiness. Instead, we should pursue righteousness and remain faithful to the calling He has placed upon our lives.

SEEK GOD IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
God desires His people to seek Him sincerely, with hearts governed by His Spirit and grounded in His truth. Genuine spiritual life is not produced by human excitement, imitation, or outward displays. It grows as we submit to God, receive His Word, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide our understanding and conduct.
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” — John 4:24 (KJV)
When people neglect prayer and the study of Scripture, they become more vulnerable to confusion. They may struggle to distinguish between what is holy and what is contrary to God's will. They may also mistake strong emotions or unusual experiences for evidence of spiritual maturity. Therefore, we must remain rooted in Scripture and seek the Lord with humility and discernment.
Seeking God in spirit and truth requires more than asking Him to satisfy our desires. It means allowing Him to correct our motives and teach us to desire what pleases Him. We must be willing to surrender pride, admit our weaknesses, and follow His instructions even when they challenge our preferences.
The Lord guides those who seek Him sincerely, but we must not assume that every personal impression comes from Him. His guidance must be consistent with His revealed Word. As we grow in prayer, understanding, and obedience, we become better equipped to recognize error and remain steadfast in truth.

REJECT THE WORKS OF THE FLESH
God calls His people to walk in the Spirit rather than allowing the desires of the flesh to dominate their lives. The flesh encourages self-centredness, pride, envy, rivalry, and the pursuit of personal recognition. When these attitudes control a person, outward religious activity may continue while the heart remains far from God's purposes.
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” — Galatians 5:16 (KJV)
Some people boast about their achievements, abilities, influence, or outward demonstrations, believing these things establish their spiritual importance. Yet human performance cannot replace holiness, obedience, and the fruit of the Spirit. God is not impressed by prideful self-promotion. He desires humility, faithfulness, love, and a life that reflects His character.
This does not mean that every visible activity or public ministry is wrong. Rather, our motives and conduct must be examined in the light of Scripture. Service becomes displeasing to God when it is driven by pride, dishonesty, or the desire to exalt ourselves above others. Whatever we do should be done to honour the Lord, not to build our own reputation.
We must therefore surrender the works of the flesh and seek the Spirit's transforming work in us. Let our lives demonstrate love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These qualities provide a clearer testimony of spiritual maturity than empty boasting or outward display.

CONTINUE TO CRY OUT TO GOD IN PRAYER
God desires His people to seek His face with earnestness and perseverance. Prayer expresses our dependence upon Him and our desire to know His will. When we humble ourselves before the Lord, we acknowledge that our wisdom and strength are insufficient without Him. We should not become weary of praying, especially when our spiritual condition and the needs around us call for deeper dependence upon God.
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” — Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)
Prayer is not a means of forcing God to act according to our demands. It is an opportunity to seek His wisdom, surrender our desires, confess our sins, and trust His purposes. As we pray, we should remain willing to receive correction and follow the direction revealed through His Word.
Fasting may also accompany prayer when undertaken with sincere motives and appropriate care. However, fasting is not a way to purchase God's favour or prove spiritual superiority. Its purpose should be to help us seek the Lord earnestly, humble ourselves, and focus our hearts on His will.
Let us become diligent in prayer, not because we wish to impress others, but because we desire genuine fellowship with God. We should pray for personal transformation, for the Church to remain faithful to Scripture, and for God's will to be accomplished in our lives. As we continue seeking Him, let us trust His wisdom and remain obedient to His truth.

GIVE THANKS FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF DWELLING IN GOD
It is a privilege to belong to God and to be invited into fellowship with Him. We should never treat this gift as something ordinary. Through Jesus Christ, believers are called to become a people in whom God works by His Spirit. Our response should be gratitude, reverence, and a renewed desire to live according to His will.
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” — 1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV)
The New Testament teaches that God's people are His temple. This truth reminds us that our lives should honour Him. Our thoughts, speech, relationships, and actions should reflect the fact that we belong to Him. We must not use the grace of God as an excuse for carelessness but as a reason to pursue holiness and faithful service.
To live as God's temple means allowing His Word to shape our conduct. We should reject bitterness, dishonesty, sexual immorality, pride, and every practice that contradicts His commands. When we fail, we must repent and seek His cleansing rather than hiding behind religious appearances.
Let us thank God for His mercy and the privilege of knowing Him. May our lives become places of faithful worship, where His truth is honoured and His character is increasingly reflected. We cannot manufacture God's glory, but we can honour Him by living in obedience to the calling He has given us.
