WALKING AS TRUE AND FAITHFUL VESSELS BEFORE GOD By Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the Name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.” — 2 Timothy 2:19-20

Introduction

The Voice of God continually calls His people into deeper intimacy, greater holiness, and unwavering faithfulness. Throughout every generation, the Lord has searched for men and women who will not merely profess His Name with their lips, but who will surrender their entire lives to Him in obedience, reverence, and truth. The message before us is a solemn and powerful warning concerning the difference between those who remain faithful to God and those who turn back into carnality after once tasting the liberty and truth found in Christ Jesus.

We are living in a time where many desire the blessings of God without desiring the discipline of God. Many want power without purity, influence without sacrifice, and recognition without transformation. Yet the Kingdom of God has never operated according to human ambition or fleshly desire. God still requires brokenness, humility, holiness, endurance, and complete surrender. He still calls His people to deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow Jesus Christ wholeheartedly.

This lesson reveals the heart of God concerning true spiritual sonship. The Father desires believers who will become faithful vessels through whom His Spirit can move freely. Such believers are not moved by popularity, emotional instability, worldly lusts, or the opinions of men. Rather, they are anchored in truth and remain steadfast despite trials, betrayals, persecutions, or temptations.

The message also exposes the dangerous consequences of rejecting God’s calling. Those who abandon truth for carnality gradually become spiritually corrupted. Their hearts become hardened, their discernment becomes darkened, and eventually they become instruments of confusion, accusation, bitterness, and destruction. Scripture repeatedly warns that when people resist the conviction of the Holy Spirit long enough, they open themselves to spiritual deception and reprobation.

This teaching is therefore both an encouragement and a warning. It encourages the faithful to continue standing firm in righteousness and purity before God. At the same time, it warns against the deadly effects of compromise, rebellion, slander, pride, and spiritual hypocrisy. Above all, it reminds us that God is not mocked. Every choice carries eternal consequences, and every believer must decide whether they will remain faithful to Christ or return to the bondage of carnality.

God Desires Sons and Daughters Who Reflect Christ

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” — Romans 8:29

The highest calling upon the life of every believer is not fame, ministry position, or earthly success. The highest calling is to become like Jesus Christ. God desires sons and daughters who carry His character, His purity, His obedience, and His truth within them.

Jesus remained faithful to the Father in every circumstance. Though He was rejected, mocked, falsely accused, betrayed, and crucified, He never turned away from the mission God had entrusted to Him. He walked in complete obedience because His heart was fully surrendered to the Father.

Likewise, believers are called to develop spiritual maturity through obedience and surrender. God does not merely seek emotional worshippers; He seeks transformed vessels who will walk faithfully regardless of opposition or suffering.

Many believers fail because they desire the crown without the cross. They desire resurrection power without dying to self. Yet true spiritual growth comes through refinement. Faith is tested through adversity, disappointments, persecution, correction, and seasons of spiritual warfare.

God permits testing because testing reveals what truly lives within the heart. Trials expose whether a person genuinely loves God or merely loves the benefits associated with serving Him.

“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.” — 1 Peter 1:7

The Danger of Returning to Carnality

“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” — Romans 8:6

Carnality is one of the greatest enemies of spiritual progress. Carnality places self at the center rather than God. It exalts fleshly desires above obedience to the Holy Spirit. Whenever believers allow lust, pride, greed, jealousy, bitterness, or ambition to dominate their lives, spiritual corruption begins to grow.

The message strongly warns about those who once walked in truth but later abandoned the ways of God. Instead of enduring spiritual refinement, they returned to fleshly desires and worldly pursuits. Such individuals gradually become dishonorable vessels because they reject the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture compares this tragedy to a dog returning to its vomit.

“But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.” — 2 Peter 2:22

When people reject conviction repeatedly, their conscience becomes seared. Sin no longer troubles them. Lies become normal. Gossip becomes enjoyable. Accusation becomes their weapon. Their hearts grow cold toward righteousness because carnality has taken dominion over them.

The tragedy is that many of these individuals were once touched by the power of God. Some once prayed fervently, worshipped passionately, and walked in spiritual truth. Yet because they refused to crucify the flesh, they slowly drifted away from intimacy with God.

Carnality eventually destroys spiritual sensitivity. A person who once heard the voice of God clearly may eventually become spiritually blind and deceived because they continually resisted truth.

The Destructive Nature of Lies and Accusations

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.” — Exodus 20:16

One major characteristic of spiritual decline is the development of a lying and accusing spirit. Satan himself is called the accuser of the brethren.

“For the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” — Revelation 12:10

Those who surrender themselves to bitterness and rebellion often become instruments of slander and confusion. Instead of repenting, they attempt to justify their condition by attacking faithful believers. Rather than acknowledging their own disobedience, they create false narratives and accusations against those who remained true to God.

The message reveals how dangerous this condition becomes. Lies multiply over time. Delusion deepens. Eventually such individuals begin believing their own falsehoods. Their spiritual perception becomes fragmented because darkness overtakes their understanding.

This is why believers must guard their hearts carefully. A bitter heart quickly opens doors to deception. Jealousy, offense, and pride become breeding grounds for demonic influence.

God calls His people to walk in truth, integrity, and purity of speech. Every believer must refuse gossip, talebearing, and malicious accusations.

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying.” — Ephesians 4:29

The Reality of Reprobation and Spiritual Blindness

“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind.” — Romans 1:28

One of the most terrifying realities in Scripture is the possibility of a reprobate mind. This occurs when individuals repeatedly reject truth and harden themselves against the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

God is merciful, patient, and longsuffering. However, persistent rebellion eventually produces severe spiritual consequences. When people continuously resist God, they may eventually lose the ability to discern truth properly.

The message describes individuals who became spiritually dead because they abandoned righteousness for lust, pride, power, popularity, and immorality. Their desires consumed them until they became spiritually empty and disconnected from the presence of God.

A reprobate condition is marked by confusion, delusion, arrogance, spiritual blindness, and hostility toward truth. Such individuals may still speak religious language externally, but inwardly they are far from God.

Jesus warned about spiritual blindness among those who outwardly appeared religious.

“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” — Matthew 15:8

Believers must therefore remain humble and teachable before God. Spiritual pride is extremely dangerous because it blinds people from recognizing their own need for repentance.

God Honors Those Who Remain Faithful

“Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” — Revelation 2:10

Though the message contains severe warnings, it also carries tremendous encouragement for faithful believers. God sees every sacrifice, every prayer, every tear, and every act of obedience offered unto Him.

The faithful may endure criticism, betrayal, misunderstanding, and persecution, but God remains their defender. Heaven recognizes those who continue walking in truth despite opposition.

True believers must never allow the corruption of others to contaminate their spiritual walk. The presence of compromise around them should not weaken their commitment to holiness.

Faithful believers are called to remain steadfast in worship, prayer, purity, and truth. They must continue pouring themselves out before God without shame or fear.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” — Galatians 6:9

God still has vessels of honor in this generation. He still has people who refuse compromise. He still has believers who value truth above popularity and holiness above worldly acceptance.

Summary

This lesson reveals the sharp contrast between faithful vessels and dishonorable vessels before God. The faithful endure testing, remain obedient to Christ, and continue walking in truth despite trials and opposition. Dishonorable vessels abandon spiritual discipline and return to carnality, eventually becoming consumed by deception, bitterness, lies, and spiritual darkness.

God calls His people to become like Jesus Christ through surrender, obedience, humility, and perseverance. Carnality destroys spiritual sensitivity and opens doors to demonic deception. Lies, gossip, and accusations are evidence of spiritual corruption and rebellion against truth.

The warning concerning reprobation reminds believers never to resist the Holy Spirit continually. God desires repentance, restoration, and transformation, but persistent rebellion leads to severe spiritual consequences.

Above all, the lesson encourages believers to remain faithful because God honors those who endure in righteousness until the end.

Conclusion

The hour in which we live demands spiritual seriousness. Half-hearted Christianity cannot survive the pressures, temptations, and deceptions of this generation. God is separating vessels of honor from vessels of dishonor. He is calling His people into purity, truth, and unwavering faithfulness.

Every believer must examine their own heart before God. Are we walking in humility and obedience, or are we allowing carnality to dominate our lives? Are we growing in spiritual maturity, or are we entertaining bitterness, compromise, and rebellion?

The Lord desires a people who will remain faithful no matter the cost. He seeks worshippers who will pour themselves out before Him sincerely and without shame. He seeks believers who treasure truth more than popularity and holiness more than worldly acceptance.

The path of righteousness may be narrow, but it leads to eternal life, eternal joy, and eternal fellowship with God.
