THE CALL TO SPIRITUAL FIDELITY By: Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: James 4:4 - "You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God."

Introduction

In every generation, God calls His people to remain faithful to Him, yet history shows that many have turned away, seduced by the world and its vanities. Spiritual infidelity is a grievous sin in the eyes of the Lord. He is a jealous God, not willing to share His people with any other master. He desires that we remain pure in our devotion to Him, forsaking the temptations of worldly pleasures and idolatry. The consequences of spiritual unfaithfulness are severe, resulting in divine judgment and desolation. However, for those who remain faithful, there is security, provision, and divine protection. This message calls every believer to examine their hearts and ensure their loyalty to Christ alone.

The Jealousy of God

Exodus 34:14 - "Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God."

God’s jealousy is not like human jealousy, rooted in insecurity or selfishness. Instead, it is a righteous jealousy that demands exclusivity in worship and devotion. Just as a husband or wife expects faithfulness in marriage, God expects unwavering commitment from His people. When believers flirt with the ways of the world, seeking its approval and pleasures over God’s will, they provoke His jealousy and bring judgment upon themselves.

The Deception of Worldly Security

1 Timothy 6:10 - "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."

Many people, in their pursuit of financial stability and security, turn to deceptive means such as gambling, corruption, and greed. The love of money enslaves them, leading to destruction. They chase after wealth, believing it will bring peace, but instead, they fall into deep despair. True security is not found in riches but in God alone. Only those who trust in Him will find true provision and peace.

Breaking Free from the Bondage of the Past

Philippians 3:13-14 - "Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

Many believers live in the haunting shadows of their past, trapped by guilt, fear, and pain. This bondage prevents them from moving forward in faith. Just as the Israelites in the wilderness longed for the security of Egypt rather than trusting God for their future, many today refuse to let go of past hurts and failures. God calls His people to release the past and embrace His promises. Only by doing so can they walk in the fullness of their calling.

The Destructive Power of Hatred

1 John 2:9 - "Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness."

Hatred and bitterness are strongholds that destroy lives. Many people carry deep wounds from past offenses, allowing hatred to consume them. This cycle of anger and vengeance is fueled by demonic influences, leading to violence and destruction. Christ calls His followers to be ambassadors of love, mercy, and forgiveness. As representatives of His Kingdom, believers must reject hatred and embrace the love of Christ. Only through His love can the chains of bitterness be broken.
