NATIONS THAT FORSAKE GOD WILL TASTE OF HIS WRATH By Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture: Jeremiah 25:4-7 (NIV)
“And though the Lord has sent all his servants the prophets to you again and again, you have not listened or paid any attention. They said, ‘Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and your evil practices, and you can stay in the land the Lord gave to you and your ancestors forever and ever. Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them; do not arouse my anger with what your hands have made. Then I will not harm you.’ But you did not listen to me,” declares the Lord, “and you have aroused my anger with what your hands have made, and you have brought harm to yourselves.”

Introduction
Throughout history, nations have risen and fallen under the judgment of God. His righteous wrath is poured out against those who reject His commands, turn to idols, and despise His mercy. God, in His infinite love and justice, grants every nation and individual the privilege to know Him. However, when this privilege is neglected or abused, the consequences are inevitable. The fall of nations under divine wrath serves as a warning to all that God cannot be mocked. Those who forsake Him will reap what they sow. This message seeks to highlight the serious consequences of forsaking God, the signs of His wrath, and the call to repentance for restoration.

The Privilege of Knowing God
Romans 1:19-20 (NIV): "Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."
God has given humanity the great privilege of knowing Him through His creation, His Word, and His Spirit. The knowledge of God is not a random occurrence but a deliberate act of divine revelation. Nations that have been blessed to know God must cherish this privilege. The rejection of God’s truth leads to spiritual blindness, resulting in moral decay and destruction.

The Consequences of Forsaking God
Deuteronomy 28:15 (NIV): "However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you."
Forsaking God brings about His wrath, which manifests in various ways:
• Withdrawal of His mercy.
• Curses upon the land and people.
• Increased suffering under calamities, disasters, and despair.
Nations that once thrived under God’s blessings can face ruin when they turn to idols and reject His ways. Just as God warned Israel, His judgment remains consistent against rebellion and disobedience.

The Signs of God’s Wrath
Isaiah 13:11 (NIV): "I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless."
God’s wrath is evident when a nation experiences:
• Moral decay and widespread corruption.
• Natural disasters, wars, and plagues.
• A culture of confusion, rebellion, and despair.
• A loss of divine protection and blessings.
These signs serve as reminders that God’s justice cannot be ignored. His wrath is not arbitrary but a direct response to sin and rebellion.

The Call to Repentance
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV): "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
Repentance is the key to restoring God’s favor. When nations or individuals turn back to God, acknowledging their sins and seeking His forgiveness, He responds with mercy. God desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance. True repentance involves:
• Turning away from sin.
• Renewing a commitment to God’s Word.
• Living in obedience and humility before Him.

The Role of God’s People in a Sinful Generation
Matthew 5:14 (NIV): "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden."
In times of national rebellion, God’s people are called to:
• Be the light in darkness, proclaiming His truth boldly.
• Intercede on behalf of the nation, praying for revival and restoration.
• Stand firm in righteousness, refusing to conform to the patterns of the world.
God’s people must lead by example, demonstrating His love, justice, and mercy to those who are lost.

However, His mercy is still available to those who repent and seek Him. God’s desire is to restore and bless, but He will not tolerate rebellion and idolatry.
