HOLD FAST TO HIS PROMISES By Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture:
"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful."
– Hebrews 10:23 (NIV)
Introduction
God’s promises are steadfast and sure, but they require unwavering faith and commitment. Just as Abraham endured trials and remained faithful to God, so must we hold on to His promises without compromise. This teaching calls us to live in obedience, vigilance, and a total surrender to His will, rejecting the ways of the flesh and the world.
1. Hold Fast to His Promises
"Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him." – Romans 4:18
God desires a people who will remain steadfast, holding onto His promises through trials and testing. Like Abraham, we must:
- Endure the test of faith and believe despite the odds.
- Refuse to waver or compromise in our obedience to Him.
- Be refined like gold, emerging stronger and more faithful.
Reflection: Are you holding onto God’s promises or wavering in doubt?
2. Pulled Out of the Sepulchers of Death
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" – 2 Corinthians 5:17
God has called us out of spiritual death into a new life of obedience and righteousness. Be thankful for this privilege and embrace His guidance with gratitude:
- Reject worldly systems and desires, focusing on God’s path.
- Yield fully to His calling for your life.
Action Point: Consecrate yourself continually to God, submitting your life to His purpose.
3. Stay Alert and Watch for Him
"Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come." – Mark 13:33
God desires His people to remain vigilant and ready for His guidance. Do not let worldly distractions weigh you down. Instead:
- Stay attentive to His voice and commands.
- Avoid being intoxicated by the luxuries and pleasures of the world.
- Keep your lips free from murmuring, for it opens doors to destruction.
Encouragement: Keep your spiritual ears open and respond when God speaks.
4. Subdue the Flesh and Follow the Spirit
"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." – Galatians 5:24
The flesh is a beast that seeks to destroy the precious things of the Spirit. To live victoriously, you must:
- Reign over the flesh, refusing to let it dominate.
- Follow the Spirit, which leads to life and peace.
- Press forward without turning back, for those who look back are unfit for God’s kingdom (Luke 9:62).
Call to Action: Let the Spirit of God rule in you, subduing the flesh and its desires.
5. God Desires to Dwell in His People
"Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?" – 1 Corinthians 3:16
God seeks to manifest His glory through yielded vessels. Your life must become a living sacrifice:
- Give all you have to God, trusting Him to multiply it.
- Live for His kingdom, not your own ambitions.
- Reflect His light in this dark generation.
Encouragement: When you yield yourself fully to God, He can do immeasurably more through you than you could imagine.
Summary and Conclusion
God calls His people to hold fast to His promises, stay alert, and live lives of unwavering obedience and faith. The flesh must be subdued, the Spirit must reign, and our lives must be wholly consecrated to Him. When we lift Him up and declare Him as He is, others will be drawn to Him.
