Obeying God By Major. Frank Materu

Key Scripture:

1 Samuel 15:1-22

"Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Why did you swoop down on the plunder and do evil in the sight of the Lord?… Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams." (v. 19, 22)

Introduction: The Power of Obedience

Obedience to God is a force that brings freedom and breaks the chains of sin, not only in your own life but also in the world around you.

It is through obedience that we experience God's strength and power to transform lives. By doing so, we release God's plans for our lives and His kingdom.

1. Obedience Frees and Breaks Chains

Obedience to God sets us free. It breaks the chains of human opinions, selfish desires, and worldly distractions. God has called you to live in freedom, and this freedom comes when you submit to Him.

This is why the Lord rebukes and corrects us; His discipline is for our growth and to lead us to obedience.

Scripture Reference:

"But the one who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does." (James 1:25)

Through obedience, God frees us and empowers us to walk in His calling.

2. Obedience Brings God's Power

When you are obedient to God, He brings great power into your life. He will fulfill His promises and fulfill His word because of your obedience.

The power of God moves through your obedience, and it is this power that shakes the world and fulfills God's plans.

Scripture Reference:

"If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land." (Isaiah 1:19)

Obedience unlocks blessings, power, and purpose in the life of the believer.

3. Trusting God in Obedience

Obeying God requires trust. When you trust God, you are able to stand firm against your enemies and continue to move forward in His plan.

The trials and pressures you face are opportunities for you to trust Him more deeply and step into greater obedience.

Scripture Reference:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

The more you trust God, the more obedient you become, and the more He can work through you.

4. Obedience Leads to Transformation

Obedience is not just about following rules, but it’s a way of life that leads to transformation. It is through obedience that God’s Spirit works in you, changing you from the inside out. As you obey Him, you begin to reflect His character and walk in the power of His Spirit.

Scripture Reference:

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2)

Obedience is the pathway to transformation and the demonstration of God’s power in your life.

5. The Consequences of Disobedience

Disobedience to God brings consequences that separate us from His blessings and bring us into hardship. Sin leads to spiritual death, but obedience brings life and peace.

God desires for us to walk in His ways, for His commands are for our good and His glory.

Scripture Reference:

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

When we reject God's commands, we cut ourselves off from His goodness. But obedience brings life and fulfillment.

6. Obedience is the Key to Blessings

When we obey God, His blessings come in abundance. God rewards the faithful who obey Him, and He promises to be with those who walk in His ways.

The blessings of obedience go beyond material rewards; they bring spiritual fulfillment, peace, and the joy of knowing that you are walking in His will.

Scripture Reference:

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matthew 6:33)

Obedience is the key that unlocks God's blessings in every area of our lives.

Conclusion:

Obedience Brings Life and Peace

Obedience to God is the pathway to life, peace, and fulfillment. As you trust God and walk in obedience to

His Word, you will experience His transforming power in your life. Disobedience leads to confusion and separation from God, but obedience brings peace, life, and His abundant blessings.

Let your life be marked by obedience to the Lord, for in doing so, you fulfill His will and walk in His power.

Final Scripture:

"Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" (Luke 11:28)

Obedience is the key to unlocking the fullness of God's promises and walking in the abundant life He has prepared for you.
