How to Avoid Judging Unfairly By Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
— Isaiah 55:8-9
Introduction
Judgment is a delicate matter, and as humans, we often fall short of God's perfect understanding. Our limited perspective can lead to misjudgments, where what seems right in our eyes may not align with God’s truth.
The Lord, however, judges according to His Spirit and eternal principles. This article explores how we can avoid judging unfairly, focusing on reliance on God’s wisdom rather than our own limited understanding.
God’s Judgment Is Supreme
Humans lack the omniscient perspective of the Holy Spirit. Often, we mistake the impure for pure and vice versa. However, God judges based on His divine wisdom and eternal truth.
“It is impossible for God to lie, and we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.”
— Hebrews 6:18
God’s desire is to pour His blessings upon His people. Yet, when we act in disobedience and rebellion, His presence is withdrawn. To judge rightly, we must align ourselves with His Spirit and Word, allowing Him to guide our decisions.
Trust in God, Not in Man
Man’s nature is unstable. Today, someone may be with you, and tomorrow, they may leave. Trust in the Lord because His promises are steadfast.
He never changes, and His words are always true.
“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.”
— Psalm 146:3
By walking in the light of Christ, we reflect His truth to others. The more we stay in fellowship with Him, the clearer our understanding becomes, and our judgments align with His.
Victory Over Darkness
When God calls us to minister to others, spiritual opposition often arises. Evil spirits recognize the power of God in us and may try to resist or intimidate. But by the authority of Christ, we can overcome these forces, freeing the captives and drawing them closer to God.
“For greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”
— 1 John 4:4
Our obedience in sharing His Word breaks strongholds, brings salvation to souls, and demonstrates God’s power over darkness.
Preach the Word Faithfully
We are called to deliver God’s message in every season, whether convenient or not. Holding back what God has entrusted to us denies others the opportunity to experience His grace and truth.
“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.”
— 2 Timothy 4:2
God has positioned us as distributors of His blessings. When we withhold His Word, we risk spiritual starvation for those He has sent us to serve.
Reject the Enemy’s Traps
The enemy often presents us with tempting "plates" such as:
- Debate
- Excuses
- Laziness
- Complacency
He seeks to distract us and lead us away from God’s purpose. Instead, we must cast these distractions aside and focus on fulfilling the will of God.
“Do not give the devil a foothold.”
— Ephesians 4:27
Conclusion
God’s ways are higher than ours, and His thoughts surpass human understanding. To avoid judging unfairly, we must lean on His wisdom, obey His Word, and trust in His unchanging nature. By aligning ourselves with His Spirit, we can reflect His light and truth to the world.
Let us commit to preaching His Word, overcoming spiritual opposition, and avoiding the traps of the enemy. In doing so, we honor God and fulfill His purpose in our lives.
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:58
