INTRODUCTION

In every generation, there has always been a battle between light and darkness, righteousness and wickedness, truth and deception. Yet our present times seem darker than any era before. Sin, wickedness, moral decay, rebellion, and spiritual blindness have become widespread and accepted as normal. The world is drowning in corruption, addictions, lawlessness, and unrepentant lifestyles. Many are chained by bondage, trapped in cycles of sin, and unable to break free from the spiritual slavery that dominates their souls. But even in the midst of this gross darkness, God speaks clearly and powerfully: “See My Light come shining in darkness.”

The message from God is not only a revelation but an invitation. God shows us that His Light is not eclipsed or diminished by the darkness of the world. His Light shines brighter when darkness is deeper. The purpose of God’s Light is to expose sin, reveal truth, and open the eyes of those who are spiritually blind. More importantly, His Light brings deliverance, salvation, restoration, and hope. God desires that those bound in chains of slavery to sin may see the Light and cry out to be set free.

Yet God also warns His people not to become self-righteous, judgmental, or proud when they see others trapped in sin. Those who have been delivered from gross darkness must remember their past condition and show compassion to those still bound. God instructs us to testify boldly about our deliverance, reminding others that transformation is possible only through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

This lesson explores the depth of God’s message about Light shining in darkness. It examines the dangers of hypocrisy, the power of true repentance, the spiritual warfare of the age, and the eternal destiny of the righteous versus the wicked. It also emphasizes the importance of living under the covering of the Holy Spirit and rejecting the covering of demons, deception, and sinful pleasures that lead to destruction. The call is clear: remain in the Light, walk in the Spirit, and refuse to return to the chains from which Christ has freed you.

THE LIGHT OF GOD SHINING IN DARKNESS

When God says, “See My Light come shining in darkness,” He is revealing His divine intervention in a world that is choking under the weight of sin. Darkness represents ignorance, sin, bondage, deception, and demonic influence. Light represents truth, freedom, righteousness, and the presence of God.

In John 1:5 it is written, “The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

This means that no matter how deep the darkness becomes, it cannot overpower or extinguish the Light of God. The Light exposes the enslavement of sin, reveals the hidden works of wickedness, and brings awakening to those who are spiritually dead.

Many are absolutely bound in chains—chains of lust, addiction, immorality, bitterness, pride, fear, hopelessness, and rebellion. But when the Light comes, those who are ashamed of their deeds and truly repent can be spared from eternal damnation. Jesus came as the Light of the world to break chains and bring people out of darkness.

REMEMBERING WHERE GOD BROUGHT YOU FROM

God reminds His people not to become self-righteous after they have been delivered. He warns us not to look down on others who are still wallowing in sin. The call is to compassion, not condemnation. God says that those who were once in darkness must testify of their own deliverance.

In Ephesians 5:8 we read, “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.”

This scripture reminds every believer that we all came from darkness. No one was born righteous. Salvation is not earned; it is given by grace.

Therefore, we should speak boldly about how Jesus redeemed us, cleansed us, and transformed us. Testimony has great power. It encourages others, exposes the lies of the enemy, and glorifies God. It reminds the world that darkness is not final—light can break through at any moment for those who repent.

THE HYPOCRISY OF THE RELIGIOUS AND THE LIGHT OF JESUS

In the days of Jesus, the religious leaders—the Pharisees, scribes, and priests—were filled with hypocrisy. They demanded that Jesus and His disciples follow ceremonial traditions, such as the washing of hands, not because they cared about holiness but because they worshipped their traditions more than they worshipped God.

Jesus exposed them as pretenders and spiritual frauds. They appeared holy on the outside but were full of filthiness and sin in their hearts. This condition is described in Matthew 23:27, “For ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.”

These religious leaders hated Jesus because the Light He carried exposed their darkness. They feared losing their power, reputation, and influence. Their hatred was rooted not in holiness but in pride and insecurity. Their attitude is similar to many leaders today—political and religious—who burden people with demands yet do nothing to help them. They claim to be righteous but live in secret sin. They persecute the righteous because the Light exposes them.

THE COVERING OF GOD VERSUS THE COVERING OF HYPOCRISY AND SIN

God reveals that different coverings influence human behavior. The covering of the Holy Spirit sets people on fire for God, bringing purity, boldness, righteousness, and passion for holiness. This covering leads to spiritual clarity, obedience, and a desire to serve God wholeheartedly.

But the covering of hypocrisy leads people into confusion, perversity, deception, and unclean desires. Those who allow the devil and demons to cover their lives find themselves on fire for sinful passions, addictions, and immoral behaviors. They view holiness as extremism and purity as fanaticism. Their tongues become weapons of slander against God’s true people.

Scripture warns clearly in Isaiah 5:20, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil.”

This is the condition of many in the world today. They normalize wickedness and mock righteousness. They celebrate rebellion and persecute truth. Yet God assures that those who choose light will be uplifted, while those who choose darkness will perish.

THE ETERNAL DESTINY OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED

God makes a strong contrast between the eternal outcomes of the righteous and the wicked. Those who remain faithful to Him, walking in the Light, will one day dwell in Heaven, filled with joy, unity, and everlasting peace. There will be no jealousy, envy, competition, or strife. Everyone will be satisfied and in harmony with God and one another.

But the wicked, those who rejected the Light, will remain dead in trespasses and sins. Their path leads to Hell—eternal torment, separation from God, and irreversible darkness. Scripture warns in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Some will weep in sorrow when they realize they wasted their lives in rebellion and delayed turning to Jesus. But if they repent before death, their sorrow will be godly, leading to salvation rather than damnation. God’s mercy is still available to those who surrender fully.

ASKING FOR THE MIND OF THE SPIRIT

God instructs His people to continually ask for the Mind of the Spirit. In these times of intense darkness, only the Holy Spirit can guide us into truth, keep us from deception, and empower us to remain in righteousness.

Scripture says in Romans 8:6, “To be spiritually minded is life and peace; but to be carnally minded is death.”

The Mind of the Spirit brings clarity, discernment, wisdom, and strength. It keeps us aligned with God’s purpose and enables us to overcome temptation. Without the Spirit’s guidance, even believers can drift into compromise and spiritual blindness.

THE REFUSAL OF MANY TO ACCEPT GOD’S LIGHT

Despite God offering salvation and freedom, many continue rejecting His plan. They think it is too hard to deny themselves and follow Jesus. They choose sin because they are addicted to pleasure and blinded by demonic deception. They cling to addictions even when those addictions destroy their lives. They choose the covering of darkness over the freedom of Light.

This fulfills the words in John 3:19, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Those who refuse the Light will continue suffering unnecessary misery. They will go through pain and heartbreak just to remain in bondage.

SUMMARY

God’s message is clear: His Light shines in darkness to bring deliverance, revelation, and transformation. Believers must not forget where God delivered them from and must be compassionate toward others lost in sin. Jesus exposes hypocrisy while offering forgiveness to the repentant. People operate under spiritual coverings—either the covering of God or the covering of demonic deception. The righteous will inherit eternal joy, while the wicked will face eternal destruction. Believers must seek the Mind of the Spirit to remain in the Light and avoid returning to darkness.

SALVATION PRAYER

“Lord Jesus, I come before You acknowledging that I have lived in darkness and need Your Light. I believe You died for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life. I repent of every sin and every bondage that has held me captive. Lord Jesus, forgive me, cleanse me, and set me free. Shine Your Light into my heart and make me a new creation. I surrender my life completely to You. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and help me walk in truth, righteousness, and obedience all the days of my life. In Jesus’ Name I pray.
