THE DANGER OF REBELLION AGAINST GOD By: Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: 1 Samuel 15:23 - "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king."

Introduction

Rebellion against God has been a persistent issue throughout human history. From the fall of Lucifer to the disobedience of Adam and Eve, and to the rebellion of nations against the will of God, the consequences of rejecting divine authority have always been severe. Many people today, including those who profess to follow Christ, are caught up in a cycle of rebellion, choosing their own ways instead of submitting to the will of God. This article examines the consequences of rebellion, the deception of rebellious leaders, and the path to restoration through obedience to God.

The Rise of Rebellion in the Present Age

The world today is experiencing an increase in rebellion against God, as seen in the actions of individuals, communities, and even nations. Many who claim to be followers of Christ are living contrary to His teachings. Instead of walking in righteousness, they indulge in the ways of the world, thinking they can still receive God’s mercy while practicing sin.

Isaiah 30:1 - "Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin."

Rebellion is dangerous because it blinds people to the truth. Those who engage in it often believe they are justified in their actions, not realizing they are setting themselves up for divine judgment.

The Hypocrisy of Rebellious Leaders

In today’s world, many spiritual leaders are leading people into rebellion rather than righteousness. They imitate the world’s ways, engaging in spiritual harlotry while expecting God’s blessing. These leaders deceive not only themselves but also those who follow them.

Matthew 23:27-28 - "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity."

False leaders present a facade of holiness but are inwardly corrupt. Their actions bring misery upon themselves and those they mislead. It is crucial for believers to discern the true servants of God from those who are motivated by self-interest and deception.

The Consequences of Rebellion

Rebellion does not go unnoticed by God. Those who persist in disobedience will face His judgment. The Bible clearly warns that rebellion leads to suffering, bondage, and ultimately destruction.

Proverbs 29:1 - "He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy."

When people choose to reject God’s ways, they open themselves up to affliction and sorrow. Their lives become filled with troubles, not because God desires their suffering, but because they have stepped out of His divine protection.

The Call to Righteous Living

God’s desire is not for His people to perish but to come into alignment with His will. He has given His Spirit to guide His people in truth. Those who remain faithful must uphold the standard of righteousness and refuse to conform to the sinful patterns of the world.

Romans 12:2 - "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Believers must remain vigilant and committed to God’s word, ensuring they are led by the Holy Spirit rather than the corrupted influences of society.

The Exposure of Rebellious Hypocrites

God is actively exposing those who live in rebellion and hypocrisy. Many who have deceived others with false teachings and immoral lifestyles are now being revealed for who they truly are.

Luke 12:2 - "For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known."

The exposure of sin is an opportunity for people to make a choice—either to repent and turn to God or to continue in their sinful ways and face destruction.

Rebellion against God is a serious sin that leads to destruction. Many in the present age, including religious leaders, have turned away from God’s ways and embraced the deceptions of the world. However, God is exposing their hypocrisy and calling His people back to righteousness. Those who remain faithful must stand firm and refuse to be influenced by the rebellion around them.
