LET US SEEK INTIMACY WITH GOD By: Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” — James 4:8 (KJV)

Introduction

God desires His people to seek Him continually through prayer and develop a close relationship with Him. Yet many have become distracted by worldly pursuits and neglected the privilege of entering His presence. God has so much to give His people, but they often fail to seek Him with sincere and persistent hearts. Through prayer, we draw near to the living God, receive His wisdom, experience His comfort, and grow in fellowship with Him. Therefore, let us repent of prayerlessness and return to seeking His face.

GOD DESIRES OUR FELLOWSHIP

God created humanity in His image and desires people to know Him and enjoy fellowship with Him. He calls us to approach Him in prayer, not merely to ask for material things, but to know His heart, receive His truth, and walk in His presence. What a privilege it is to be welcomed into fellowship with the living God!

“Our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” — 1 John 1:3 (KJV)

SEEK GOD THROUGH PERSISTENT PRAYER

We are living in a time when many people pursue other things while neglecting prayer. God calls His people to seek Him earnestly, cry out to Him, and remain steadfast in prayer. When we sincerely desire His presence, we make room for spiritual growth and deeper communion with Him.

“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)

STOP RELYING ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING

Many difficulties become harder to navigate when we fail to seek God's wisdom and direction. Instead of rushing into decisions or relying entirely on human understanding, we must turn to the Lord. He knows our needs and understands the way we should go. Through prayer and obedience, we learn to depend on His wisdom rather than our own assumptions.

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” — Proverbs 3:6 (KJV)

SEEK GOD ABOVE THE WORLD

The world cannot provide the lasting peace and spiritual satisfaction that come from knowing God. People may disappoint us, and worldly pursuits may leave us empty, but the Lord welcomes those who seek Him sincerely. We must not allow worldly distractions or the rejection of others to draw our hearts away from His presence.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.” — Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

REPENT OF PRAYERLESSNESS AND SPIRITUAL LAZINESS

When we neglect prayer, we miss opportunities to receive God's guidance, wisdom, and comfort. We must honestly examine ourselves and repent of laziness, distractions, and the failure to seek the Lord faithfully. Our time on earth is limited; therefore, we should use it to pursue God and strengthen our relationship with Him.

“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.” — Isaiah 55:6 (KJV)

RECEIVE GOD'S COMFORT AND STRENGTH

God invites the weary and burdened to come to Him. As we draw near to Him, we can lay our burdens before Him and receive His sustaining grace. His presence brings spiritual light, encouragement, and renewed strength to those who trust Him. We should therefore approach Him with confidence, knowing that He cares for His people.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

Prayer of Salvation

Heavenly Father, I come before You acknowledging that I am a sinner and need Your salvation. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again. Forgive me and cleanse my heart. Lord Jesus, I receive You as my Saviour and Lord. Help me to turn away from sin, seek Your presence, and walk in obedience to Your Word. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and teach me to live in fellowship with You every day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
