THE ETERNAL TRUTH VERSUS THE GODS OF LIES By: Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture:

“For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens.”

— Psalm 96:5 (KJV)

Introduction

In every age, God has raised up voices to declare the difference between truth and deception, between the living God and the gods of men. The spiritual battleground of the soul is filled with false messengers, man-made deities, and deceptive traditions that divert multitudes from the path of righteousness. These deceptions are not harmless; they lead to spiritual destitution, eternal separation from God, and a loss of identity and destiny.

The divine message we are addressing unveils God’s deep grief over how humanity has been misled by falsehood, and His divine intention that all would come into the knowledge of the truth through His Son Jesus Christ. It also reveals how, despite overwhelming apostasy, God has preserved a faithful remnant who walk in the truth and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to stand against darkness.

This lesson invites believers to awaken to the reality of the warfare between truth and deception, to remain firm in their allegiance to Jesus, and to embrace their calling as messengers of light in an age ruled by spiritual blindness and rebellion.

The Supremacy of the Living God

“I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me…”

— Isaiah 45:5

The Lord reminds us in this revelation that He is the triumphant, victorious, and eternal God. He is exalted above all the false gods of the nations—those created by the imaginations of men. The gods of human invention may seem influential for a time, but they eventually vanish, exposed as powerless, crushed by the hand of the Almighty.

These man-made gods—whether idols, ideologies, or self-exalting philosophies—are lies dressed in spiritual clothing. People who turn to such gods are not merely deceived intellectually; they suffer spiritual death and end in damnation because they have trusted in what is false. The truth remains: the Lord alone is Creator and worthy of worship.

Humanity’s Fall into Deception

“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind…”

— Romans 1:28

God created men and women to worship and serve Him joyfully every day. However, the fall of Adam and Eve through sin initiated a global and generational rebellion against divine truth. The human tendency to believe lies over truth stems from that original choice—to listen to the serpent over the Creator.

As a result, countless souls have been consumed by darkness, not because God desires it, but because they prefer lies over light. People are not victims of ignorance alone; many actively reject the truth in favor of what appeals to their pride, lusts, or traditions. This choice has eternal consequences.

The Narrow Way of Christ

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction… because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

— Matthew 7:13–14

Jesus Himself acknowledged the reality of human resistance to truth. He taught that His way is narrow, and few choose to walk in it. This is not because God is restrictive, but because truth demands surrender. Most prefer the wide road of popular religion, cultural ideologies, or spiritual mediocrity.

Jesus brought light into a dark world, but that light was rejected even by His own people. The Jews, blessed with the covenants and scriptures, largely refused to receive Him. The religious establishment resisted His call to repentance, preferring their traditions and status over transformation. They plotted His death because He told them the truth.

False Messengers Then and Now

“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.”

— 2 Corinthians 11:13

Just as in Jesus’ time, false messengers abound today. They clothe themselves in religious appearance but are inwardly motivated by selfish ambition and deceit. They speak not the truth of God but manipulate people for personal gain, political influence, or control.

Their teachings lack repentance, righteousness, and obedience to the Holy Spirit. These pretenders preach prosperity without purity, grace without truth, and comfort without conviction. As a result, entire nations are led away from God, and even churches are turned into spiritual deserts.

These wolves in sheep’s clothing plot against true messengers. They despise those who speak truth because truth exposes their hypocrisy. They attack, defame, and isolate the righteous to silence the message of repentance and holiness. But God is not mocked—He sees their schemes and will bring them to judgment.

A Call to Spiritual Discernment

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

— 1 John 4:1

This is a call to spiritual awareness. Believers must not be naive. Discernment is needed in these evil days. Not every voice claiming to be from God speaks truth. Not every miracle or prophetic word is from the Holy Spirit.

We must test every spirit and measure every message by the written Word of God. Only those who abide in the truth of Scripture and are led by the Holy Spirit can avoid the snares of deception.

The Joy of Remaining in Truth

“Then said Jesus… If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

— John 8:31–32

God encourages His people not to lose their joy because of the evil around them. Though the wicked plot against the righteous, we have victory through Christ. He is our refuge, deliverer, and keeper of our souls.

There is joy in remaining faithful to God amid corruption. It is not a joy based on circumstances but rooted in our eternal identity. Those who keep their eyes on the Lord will not be shaken, no matter how loud the voices of lies become.

God’s Wrath and God’s Protection

“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.”

— 1 Thessalonians 5:9

While God’s wrath is being revealed against the rebellious, scoffers, and false teachers, His people are not appointed to wrath. Instead, they are called to continue in joy, faith, and obedience.

Those who walk by the Spirit will be protected from the deceptions of the age. God’s nearness to His people becomes their shield. His truth remains their compass. The world may rage, but the faithful are kept in perfect peace.

Summary

This divine message uncovers the reality of spiritual deception in our age and affirms the unchanging victory and supremacy of God. It warns of false messengers and reminds believers of their privilege and responsibility to stand in truth. As in the days of Christ, many reject truth to cling to lies. But the faithful are called to walk in light, truth, and spiritual discernment, standing firm amid persecution and declaring the gospel with boldness.

Conclusion

The gods of men are dust, but the God of heaven reigns forever. The schemes of false messengers will fail, but the Word of the Lord endures. Let every believer remember: the narrow path is the path of life. Though few walk it, its end is eternal joy. Remain faithful, remain true, and resist the pull of the age.
