MISSION RESTORATION By: Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: Joel 2:25-26 – "I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame."

Introduction

Restoration is a divine act of God, an intentional process through which He regathers, renews, and rebuilds His people. Throughout history, God's people have experienced seasons of scattering, trials, and setbacks, but He never intended for them to remain in that condition forever. The God we serve is the God of restoration, who has a divine plan to bring His people back to a place of wholeness, strength, and purpose.

The concept of Mission Restoration is deeply rooted in Scripture, where God time and again intervenes to restore what has been lost, rebuild what has been broken, and renew what has been weakened. This mission is not a passive event but an active, intentional movement initiated by God and executed through His people.

In this teaching, we will explore the different aspects of Mission Restoration—what it means, how God accomplishes it, and what is required of His people. This is the season and time that God has chosen to restore His people, and we must be willing to cooperate with Him.

God is the Author of Restoration

Isaiah 61:7 – "Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy."

God is the one who initiates restoration. He sees the pain, the suffering, and the struggles that His people endure, and in His perfect time, He steps in to restore. The Bible is filled with examples of God restoring His people—whether it was Israel returning from exile, Job receiving double for his loss, or the prodigal son being welcomed back home. Restoration is a divine work that showcases God's power and love for His own.

Restoration Requires Faith and Obedience

Hebrews 11:6 – "And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."

God calls His people to walk in faith and obedience during the process of restoration. Many times, restoration does not happen instantly—it requires trust in God’s plan and patience in His timing. Faith enables believers to see beyond their current struggles and believe that God is at work. Obedience ensures that we remain aligned with God's will, moving in the direction He desires for our lives.

Restoration is Not Dependent on Human Strength

Zechariah 4:6 – "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts."

Human effort alone cannot bring about restoration. Many people try to rebuild their lives through their own strength, but true and lasting restoration comes only through God’s power. The Holy Spirit is the force behind every restoration process, guiding, strengthening, and empowering believers to walk in the fullness of God’s plan.

God Restores for His Purpose and Glory

Romans 8:28 – "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

Restoration is not just about personal gain; it is about fulfilling God's purpose. When God restores His people, He does so to bring glory to His name and to advance His kingdom. Those who have been restored are called to testify of God’s goodness, serve His mission, and be a light to others who are still in need of restoration.
