EXPECTATIONS FOR SOULS IN THE COMING YEAR By: Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture: John 10:14-16
"I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd."

Introduction
As we approach the coming year, the Lord is calling His people to shift their focus beyond personal benefits and material expectations. He is urging us to develop an expectation for souls—lost, broken, scattered, and forsaken souls that need restoration to Him. Many have been wounded by the attacks of the enemy, abandoned by false shepherds, and left vulnerable to destruction. However, God's desire is for full restoration, and He is sending forth a call to bring His sheep back into His fold.
This teaching explores the heart of God concerning the restoration of souls, the exposure of false shepherds, the divine judgment upon unrighteous leaders, and the security found in Christ, the Good Shepherd. We will examine how believers can align with God’s agenda, intercede for the lost, and actively participate in the great harvest of souls.

The Heart of God for Restoration
God’s primary concern is the restoration of His people. Many have wandered away due to spiritual neglect, deception, and trials. However, the Father’s heart longs to bring them back.
Ezekiel 34:11-12
"For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness."
Those who have been deceived, oppressed, and wounded will experience divine healing as they respond to His call to return. The Lord is actively seeking the lost and desires His people to participate in this redemptive mission.

The Exposure of False Shepherds and Hirelings
Many so-called shepherds have abandoned their calling, prioritizing personal gain over the well-being of God’s people. The Lord is exposing such individuals and calling for true shepherds to arise.
Jeremiah 23:1-2
"Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!" declares the Lord. Therefore this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to the shepherds who tend my people: 'Because you have scattered my flock and driven them away and have not bestowed care on them, I will bestow punishment on you for the evil you have done,' declares the Lord."
The collapse of selfish leadership structures will be a sign of God’s justice in action. He is replacing false shepherds with true spiritual leaders who carry His heart for His people.

The Call to Repentance and Restoration
The Lord is calling back those who have strayed from Him. This is a season of mercy for those who heed His voice and return to the fold.
Isaiah 55:7
"Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon."
God is not willing for anyone to perish. The church must actively engage in repentance and encourage others to return to the path of righteousness.

Divine Judgment on Wicked Leaders and Kingdoms
Those who build their own kingdoms based on deceit and oppression will face divine judgment. God is shaking the foundations of man-made empires.
Daniel 2:21
"He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning."
Rebellions, upheavals, and the downfall of corrupt leaders will serve as evidence of God’s sovereign justice.

Christ as the True Shepherd and Refuge
While the world experiences turmoil, those who trust in Christ will find safety and provision. Jesus is the Great Shepherd who never abandons His flock.
Psalm 46:1
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
Those who run to Christ will be equipped with spiritual strength, wisdom, and divine resources to withstand the coming challenges.

Prayer of Salvation
Heavenly Father,
I come before You acknowledging that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. I repent of my sins and ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died for my sins, and that He rose again on the third day. I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and take control of my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to live for You. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
