DRUGS: THE DEVIL’S TOOL OF DESTRUCTION By: Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: John 10:10

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

Introduction

In the world today, drug addiction has become one of the most prevalent tools that Satan uses to destroy lives. It is not God's intention for people to be enslaved by substances that alter their minds, damage their bodies, and ultimately lead them to destruction. Yet, millions have fallen into this deadly trap, unable to recognize the deception behind it.

The devil’s agenda has never changed. He comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, and drugs serve as one of his primary instruments in carrying out this agenda. Whether it is over-the-counter medication, prescribed drugs, or illegal substances, all have been used to drag people into bondage and separate them from God's purpose for their lives.

This message is a call to awareness, a warning against the deceptive power of drugs, and an invitation to find true deliverance in Jesus Christ.

The Devil’s Strategy: Enslaving Lives Through Drugs

2 Corinthians 2:11

"Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices."

Satan uses drugs as a means to enslave and destroy people. Many who fall into addiction believe they are finding an escape, a way to numb their pain, or a temporary relief from their struggles. However, what starts as a momentary pleasure quickly turns into lifelong bondage. The devil takes advantage of their vulnerability and uses addiction to separate them from the truth of God.

The Tragedy of Drug Addiction

Isaiah 5:13

"Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst."

The streets of our cities are filled with the homeless and hopeless—victims of drug addiction who have lost their sense of identity and direction. Many have overdosed and died without ever finding the hope that is in Jesus Christ. They are captives of a system that profits from their destruction, and the tragedy is that many of them are completely unaware of the chains that bind them.

The Deception of Finding Peace in Drugs

Proverbs 14:12

"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."

Why do so many people turn to drugs for peace when God offers true peace through His Son, Jesus Christ? The devil has deceived people into thinking that substances can bring comfort, but in reality, they only bring destruction. Those who sell and distribute these drugs are agents of darkness, working to keep people bound.

The Power of Deliverance in Christ

John 8:36

"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

There is hope for those who have been trapped by addiction. Jesus Christ is the only One who can break the chains of drug dependence and restore those who have been lost in darkness. Those who turn to Him in repentance and surrender will find the strength to overcome and be set free from the bondage of addiction.

The Call to Remain Pure and Sober

1 Peter 5:8

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."

God calls His people to be vigilant and sober-minded. Those who remain in Him will not fall prey to the deceptions of the enemy. Rather than seeking refuge in drugs, believers are called to seek their strength, comfort, and healing in God alone.

Summary

Addiction is a deadly trap that has enslaved millions, but deliverance is available to those who seek the Lord. Believers must remain vigilant, resisting the temptations of this world and walking in the freedom that Christ provides.
