THE WRATH OF GOD UPON THE UNREPENTANT By: Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture: Romans 1:18 - "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness."

INTRODUCTION
Throughout history, God has continuously called humanity to repentance, sending His messengers, prophets, and truth to guide His people. However, generation after generation, mankind has chosen rebellion over righteousness, pride over humility, and hypocrisy over truth. The sins of the fathers have been carried down, increasing in severity, and leading to inevitable judgment.
The nature of God's justice is not only about mercy and grace but also about retribution against those who persist in wickedness. The unrepentant stand under the heavy weight of divine wrath, for God does not overlook sin. This message serves as a divine warning, emphasizing that rejection of God's truth invites His righteous judgment. Just as nations and cities have fallen under His wrath, so too shall those who refuse to repent face His righteous indignation.

THE SINS OF GENERATIONS PAST AND PRESENT
Exodus 34:7 - "Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation."
God is grieved not only by the sins of individuals but by the compounded wickedness of entire generations. The sins of the fathers—pride, arrogance, rebellion, and bloodshed—have continued into the present day, growing worse with time. Cities and nations have embraced evil under the guise of progress, rejecting the ways of righteousness and justice.
The rejection of God is not a new phenomenon; history bears witness to countless examples where people turned away from Him, resulting in destruction. What we see today is not just individual wickedness but the continuation of ancestral sins, leading to an amplified state of depravity.

THE HYPOCRISY OF A WICKED GENERATION
Matthew 23:28 - "Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity."
One of the greatest abominations before God is hypocrisy—acting righteous before men while harboring corruption within. Many nations and cities appear to be beacons of light, yet in reality, they are covered in filth. They claim to honor God but despise His truth. Their religious acts are mere pretension, while their hearts remain far from Him.
Hypocrisy blinds people to their own sin. It allows them to deceive themselves into believing they are safe from judgment. However, God sees beyond appearances; He sees the iniquity, the rebellion, and the refusal to repent. This hypocrisy only intensifies His wrath, for He despises those who attempt to mock Him with false righteousness.

THE CERTAINTY OF GOD'S WRATH
Nahum 1:2-3 - "God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked."
God's judgment is not idle; it is certain. He has given ample warnings, yet the unrepentant continue in their sin. His wrath is not an empty threat but a reality for those who refuse to turn from wickedness. The proud, the rebellious, and the unrepentant will be brought down under His righteous judgment.
History is filled with examples of cities and nations that rose in arrogance, only to be cast down by divine punishment. Babylon, Sodom, Gomorrah, and many others serve as testimonies to God's intolerance of persistent evil. He does not change; just as He judged them, so will He judge those who follow in their sinful ways.

THE BLOOD OF THE PROPHETS STILL CRIES OUT
Matthew 23:34-35 - "Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar."
The blood of God’s messengers has not been forgotten. The prophets who spoke truth were murdered, rejected, and despised. Their voices were silenced by those who wished to remain in darkness. But their blood still cries out for justice, and God will answer.
The rejection of truth is a sign of deep spiritual rebellion. Instead of repentance, people have chosen to silence the voices that call them back to righteousness. However, God does not forget. He records every injustice, and the day will come when He repays those who have shed innocent blood.

THE INESCAPABLE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN
Galatians 6:7 - "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
No one escapes the consequences of sin. Those who sow wickedness will reap destruction. Many believe they can continue in their evil ways without consequence, but God's justice will not be delayed forever. The suffering, the calamities, and the destruction they face are the direct results of their own rebellion.
Even now, troubles are increasing. Nations are facing turmoil, economies are collapsing, and violence is rampant. These are not random occurrences but the fruit of persistent disobedience. The more people refuse to repent, the more intense their suffering will become.

SALVATION PRAYER
If you desire to turn to God and receive His mercy, pray this prayer with sincerity:
"Heavenly Father, I come before You in humility, acknowledging my sins. I have strayed from Your ways, and I need Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again to give me new life. I repent of my sins and ask You to cleanse me. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Fill me with Your Spirit and guide me in righteousness. I surrender my life to You. In Jesus' name, Amen."
