THE DANGERS OF WASTING TIME AND INDULGING IN SELF-DESTRUCTION By Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: Ephesians 5:15-16 - "See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."

Introduction

Time is one of the greatest gifts that God has given to mankind. Each day is an opportunity to serve God, to grow in faith, and to fulfill the purpose He has ordained for us. However, many in today's world are wasting the precious time given to them, indulging in laziness, addiction, and self-destruction. The enemy has blinded many, leading them into lifestyles that are unproductive, sinful, and ultimately deadly. Depression, addiction, and rebellion have become rampant, and as a result, countless lives are being lost, both physically and spiritually.

The problem of laziness and indulgence is not new, but in these times, it has intensified. More and more people are enslaved by addictive substances, seeking temporary escape rather than eternal salvation. The world is plunging deeper into darkness, and many are perishing without knowing the truth. It is time for believers to wake up, redeem the time, and live in alignment with God's will.

The Spirit of Slothfulness and Self-Indulgence

Proverbs 6:9-11 - "How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man."

Many people today are content with doing nothing. They spend their days in idleness, focusing only on their own comfort. The spirit of slothfulness has taken over, and instead of being productive, they are wasting away in laziness. They refuse to work, refuse to grow, and refuse to seek God.

God warns against such a lifestyle. He has called us to be diligent, to labor for His kingdom, and to be good stewards of the time He has given us. A lazy person will not only face physical poverty but will also experience spiritual poverty, which is far worse.

The Chains of Addiction and the Drugs of Damnation

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

The enemy has introduced various forms of addiction to enslave people, keeping them away from their divine calling. Many seek refuge in drugs, alcohol, and other destructive behaviors, hoping to escape the pain they feel inside. However, these addictions only bring temporary relief while leading to permanent destruction.

Satan uses addiction as a weapon to steal, kill, and destroy. Those who indulge in these substances become prisoners, unable to break free without divine intervention. Many die in their sins, never knowing the freedom that comes through Christ.

The Consequences of a Life Without God

Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

When people turn away from God, they open themselves up to destruction. Sin leads to death, and without repentance, the consequences are eternal. The world today is filled with leaders who reject God, and as a result, society is collapsing under the weight of sin. Nations that have abandoned God's principles are experiencing chaos, war, and suffering.

Without God, people become hopeless and directionless. They wander through life with no sense of purpose, leading to despair, depression, and ultimately destruction.

The Hope for Those Who Turn to God

Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

Despite the darkness that covers the world, there is hope for those who choose to seek God. He has a plan for each of us, a plan that leads to life and not death. Those who turn away from sin and seek righteousness will find peace, joy, and purpose.

God is calling His people to rise up, to walk in His ways, and to shine as lights in a dark world. He is ready to deliver those who are bound in addiction, depression, and hopelessness. His Spirit will guide all who call upon Him.

Prayer of Salvation

If you want to give your life to Christ and turn away from the path of destruction, say this prayer with faith:

Lord Jesus, I come before You today acknowledging that I am a sinner in need of Your grace. I believe that You died for my sins and rose again for my salvation. I repent of my sins and ask You to cleanse me and make me whole. Come into my heart, be my Lord and Savior, and lead me in the path of righteousness. From this day forward, I will follow You and live for You. Thank You, Lord, for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
