True Allegiance to God: Rejecting the False Security of the World By: Major. Frank Materu
Key Verse:
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7
God’s Abundant Mercy and Truth
God offers us abundant mercy and truth through His presence. When we partake in His life, we are uplifted.
However, He finds no joy in a people who continuously seek after worldly ways, nor in those who refuse to fully trust Him in all things.
True trust in God is our pathway to being brought forth in His strength and purpose.
The Folly of Trusting in Worldly Powers
When those claiming to be God’s people place their trust in human institutions, they risk becoming ensnared by the world’s deception.
Dependence on an ungodly government leads to bondage, yet multitudes who say they love God continually turn to the state for security, even when it demands compromise of faith.
True allegiance to God means standing firm, regardless of worldly pressures or demands.
“Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.” Jeremiah 17:5
The Test of True Faith
In these comfortable times, few are willing to make sacrifices for God.
Unlike believers of past generations, who gave up everything and even suffered for obedience to Him, many today offer cheap excuses for their lack of commitment.
This reveals a desire to maintain control and pursue personal agendas rather than yielding to God. Such self-centeredness is displeasing to Him.
Fear of God vs. Fear of Man
Today, many who claim to follow God live in fear of the state rather than fear of the Lord.
They say they submit to earthly laws “for the sake of the Lord,” but this is often mere pretense.
By prioritizing the world’s approval over obedience to God, they have already taken on the “mark of the beast” — walking in fear of human authority instead of God’s authority.
“You shall have no other gods before Me.” Exodus 20:3
Rejecting the World’s Pretense and Choosing God’s Authority
What benefit is there in pretending to submit to earthly authority if we are not truly obedient to God?
True allegiance requires us to walk without compromise, to reject the security offered by the world’s systems when it contradicts our faith.
Let us be mindful not to take on the “mark” of fearing worldly powers, but rather to live with complete trust in God, who is our only true authority.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Conclusion:
Standing Firm in True Allegiance to God
In these times, let us seek not the approval of the world, but the approval of God.
True trust in God brings us life, strength, and purpose, and spares us from the deceptive security of the world.
May we reject the false allegiances around us and fully submit to God’s authority, trusting in His sovereignty and following His ways, regardless of the demands of worldly powers.
