Introduction

The question, “Which Jesus do you serve?” is one of the most critical and searching questions that can be asked in this present generation. It is not enough to claim belief in Jesus Christ; one must know and follow the true, biblical Christ—not a version shaped by personal preference, cultural influence, or human imagination. In these times, there has been a dangerous rise in the creation of false concepts of Jesus—distorted portrayals that accommodate sin, affirm carnality, and remove the demands of holiness, obedience, and sacrifice.

This lesson addresses the alarming reality that many have fashioned for themselves a “convenient Jesus,” one who requires nothing, confronts nothing, and allows everything. Such a creation is not the Son of God but an idol formed in the mind—designed to justify disobedience and maintain comfort in sin. This false image deceives many into believing they are in right standing with God, while in truth they are far from Him.

At the same time, we are witnessing the rise of personality-driven Christianity, where admiration and devotion are directed toward human figures rather than God Himself. Entertainment has replaced reverence, popularity has replaced truth, and compromise has replaced consecration. This environment fosters spiritual confusion and leads many away from the narrow path of true discipleship.

This teaching seeks to restore clarity by revealing the nature of the true Jesus Christ, exposing the dangers of false representations, and calling believers back to a life of holiness, obedience, and unwavering devotion. It is both a warning and an invitation—to reject deception and embrace the truth that leads to life.

The Danger of Creating a False Jesus

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” — Exodus 20:4

________________________________________

The human tendency to reshape God according to personal desire is not new. From ancient times, people have attempted to create representations of God that align with their preferences. Today, this same pattern continues, not through physical idols alone, but through distorted teachings and beliefs about Jesus Christ.

A false Jesus is often characterized by permissiveness. He is presented as one who loves without correction, accepts without transformation, and saves without requiring repentance. This version of Jesus appeals to the flesh because it removes accountability and allows individuals to remain in sin while feeling justified.

However, such a concept is a direct contradiction of the true Christ revealed in Scripture. The real Jesus calls for repentance, holiness, and total surrender. He confronts sin rather than accommodating it. Therefore, to accept a false Jesus is to reject the true One.

The Root of Deception: Love of Self Over Love of God

“For men shall be lovers of their own selves…” — 2 Timothy 3:2

________________________________________

At the heart of this deception lies a misplaced love—love of self rather than love of God. When individuals prioritize their desires, comfort, and preferences above God’s truth, they become susceptible to creating beliefs that justify their lifestyle.

This self-centered approach leads to the formation of a “customized faith,” where God is expected to conform to human expectations. Instead of submitting to God’s authority, individuals attempt to redefine Him in ways that suit their desires.

Such an approach is deeply offensive to God because it replaces reverence with rebellion. It denies His sovereignty and elevates human opinion above divine truth. True faith, in contrast, requires surrender—acknowledging God as He is and aligning one’s life accordingly.

The Rise of Entertainment and Celebrity Worship in Christianity

“Their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men.” — Isaiah 29:13

________________________________________

Modern Christianity has increasingly adopted the patterns of the world, particularly in the area of entertainment and celebrity culture. Many gatherings that claim to honor God have become centered around performance, personality, and emotional stimulation rather than genuine worship and truth.

So-called “Christian stars” are often elevated to positions of admiration that border on idolatry. Applause, attention, and devotion are directed toward individuals rather than God. This shift reflects a deeper issue—the replacement of true worship with entertainment.

God never intended for His people to mirror the world’s systems. His desire is for worship that is sincere, reverent, and focused entirely on Him. When believers adopt worldly patterns, they compromise their identity and weaken their spiritual foundation.

The True Nature of Discipleship: Separation and Consecration

“Be ye holy; for I am holy.” — 1 Peter 1:16

________________________________________

True discipleship requires separation from the world and consecration unto God. This does not mean isolation, but it does mean living according to a different standard—one that reflects God’s holiness and righteousness.

Those who truly follow Christ are set apart. Their values, actions, and priorities differ from those of the world. They are not driven by popularity, comfort, or acceptance, but by obedience to God.

This path is not easy. It often involves rejection, misunderstanding, and even persecution. However, it is the path that leads to life and eternal reward. Those who walk in consecration demonstrate their genuine commitment to God.

The Example of Jesus Christ in Obedience and Sacrifice

“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” — John 17:4

________________________________________

Jesus Christ is the perfect example of obedience and faithfulness. He did not seek approval from men, nor did He compromise His message to gain followers. His focus was entirely on fulfilling the will of the Father.

He walked a path marked by sacrifice, rejection, and spiritual warfare. Yet He remained steadfast, knowing that His mission was not to please people but to accomplish God’s purpose.

His disciples were called to follow this same pattern. They were not promised comfort or security, but they were assured of God’s presence and eternal reward. This example challenges modern believers to reconsider their understanding of what it means to follow Christ.

The Call to Radical Obedience and Total Surrender

“So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.” — Luke 14:33

________________________________________

The call of Christ is a call to total surrender. It requires letting go of anything that competes with devotion to God—whether material possessions, personal ambitions, or worldly attachments.

True messengers of God cannot serve two masters. They cannot love both God and material wealth or worldly approval. Double-mindedness leads to instability and weakens spiritual authority.

Radical obedience is not about extremism; it is about alignment. It is about choosing God’s will above all else and trusting Him completely. This level of commitment is what defines true discipleship.

The Temporary Nature of Human Inventions

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” — Isaiah 40:8

________________________________________

All human inventions—whether ideologies, movements, or false representations of Christ—are temporary. They may gain popularity for a time, but they ultimately fade and are forgotten.

In contrast, the truth of God remains eternal and unchanging. Those who build their lives on false foundations will find their efforts collapsing, while those who stand on truth will endure.

This reality underscores the importance of discernment. Believers must evaluate teachings, practices, and influences in light of God’s Word. Only what aligns with truth will stand the test of time.

Summary

This lesson has explored the critical distinction between the true Jesus Christ and false representations created by human imagination. It has highlighted the dangers of self-centered faith, the influence of entertainment culture, and the necessity of consecration and obedience.

We have seen that true discipleship requires surrender, sacrifice, and alignment with God’s will. The example of Jesus Christ provides a model of faithfulness that challenges modern notions of comfort and convenience.

Ultimately, the choice is clear: to follow the true Christ or to embrace a counterfeit that leads to deception.

Conclusion

The question remains: Which Jesus do you serve? This is not a theoretical inquiry but a personal and eternal one. The answer is revealed not only in words but in actions, priorities, and lifestyle.

God calls His people to return to truth, to reject all forms of deception, and to walk in genuine relationship with Him. This requires humility, repentance, and a willingness to change.

The path of truth may be narrow and challenging, but it leads to life. The path of deception may be broad and appealing, but it leads to destruction.

Choose wisely.
