Introduction

Today, God calls us to reflect on the state of our lives—are we living consecrated to Him, or are we overindulging in the fleshly desires that only lead to spiritual stagnation and destruction? As believers, we are called to follow the example of Jesus, not by yielding to the temptations of this world, but by living a life of consecration—dedicated to God’s will and purposes. This message challenges us to choose whether we will pursue holiness or be caught in the trap of overindulgence, which ultimately leads to spiritual constipation.

Consecration vs. Carnality

"If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."

• Matthew 16:24 (KJV)

Consecration is the act of dedicating ourselves fully to God—rejecting the distractions and desires of the flesh in order to live according to His will. It requires self-denial and a willingness to forsake worldly pleasures. In contrast, carnality—the pursuit of fleshly desires—leads to spiritual decay. Those who indulge in the cravings of the flesh find themselves spiritually constipated, unable to serve God fully. The more one feeds the flesh, the less strength they have to follow God’s commands. This overindulgence dulls the soul, leaving it in a state of spiritual barrenness and misery.

The Danger of Fleshly Lust

"But I say, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

• Galatians 5:16 (KJV)

Fleshly lusts are not just physical cravings but can take many forms, including the lust for power, fame, and fortune. These desires are insatiable and lead only to emptiness. The more one feeds them, the more they grow, causing spiritual death. People who chase after these desires end up disillusioned, as nothing in the world can ever satisfy the deepest longings of the soul. True satisfaction comes only through living in obedience to God’s Spirit, following the path of consecration rather than indulgence.

The Consequences of Overindulgence

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."

• 1 John 2:16 (KJV)

Overindulgence in the things of the world brings spiritual desolation. It leads to a life that is disconnected from God, where people are ruled by their fleshly desires rather than being guided by His Spirit. Such a lifestyle ultimately causes one to become spiritually “constipated”—unable to grow or move in the things of God. The more a person indulges in these things, the less able they become to hear God’s voice or obey His commands. It is a downward spiral that only ends in destruction.

The Call to Live Consecrated

"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

• 1 Corinthians 6:20 (KJV)

God is calling us to live lives of consecration, where our bodies and spirits are dedicated to His service. Consecration means being set apart for His purposes, rejecting the allure of worldly pleasures in favor of His will. It is a life of holiness, where we seek to please God in every area of our lives. When we consecrate ourselves to Him, we are freed from the destructive patterns of sin and empowered to live according to His commands. God’s Spirit will guide us, strengthen us, and lead us into the life He has planned for us.

The Danger of Deception and Demonic Influence

"But the things that proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man."

• Matthew 15:18 (KJV)

As the world becomes increasingly influenced by demonic forces, many are being deceived and led astray. People who are not anchored in Christ are vulnerable to the voices of demons, which lead them into sin and confusion. Those who do not heed the call to consecration are left exposed to these demonic influences, which rob them of their spiritual vitality. It is essential to remain grounded in God’s Word and His Spirit, resisting the temptations of the enemy and the pressures of the world.

Consecration Brings Freedom and Strength

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

• 2 Corinthians 3:17 (KJV)

Consecration to God brings true freedom. It is not a life of restriction but of liberation—freedom from the bondage of sin, from the grip of fleshly lusts, and from the lies of the enemy. When we live consecrated lives, we align ourselves with God’s perfect will, and His Spirit empowers us to walk in strength, peace, and righteousness. This is the life of victory that God desires for His people—a life free from the destructive consequences of sin and filled with the joy of serving Him.

Consecration is about dedicating ourselves fully to God’s will, rejecting worldly pleasures, and following His commands. Those who indulge in the flesh find themselves spiritually barren, while those who live in consecration experience the fullness of life in Christ. The world and its desires can never satisfy, but a life of consecration brings freedom, peace, and the strength to serve God faithfully.
