You Were Called, But You Did Not Answer By Major Frank Materu
----Key Scripture:
“I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention. You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered.” — Proverbs 1:24-25 (NLT)
----Introduction
God has always called His people to walk in His ways, to listen to His voice, and to align themselves with His divine purpose. However, many have chosen to ignore His call, prioritizing worldly distractions over eternal treasures. This article explores the consequences of such choices and the hope that remains for those who answer God’s call with humility and obedience.
----1. The Call of God: A Persistent Invitation
“But I have been the Lord your God ever since you came out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savior except me.” — Hosea 13:4 (NIV)
God’s call is a persistent invitation extended to all His children. Yet, many refuse to respond, distracted by fleeting pursuits. This disregard is not merely an act of negligence but a rejection of the blessings, guidance, and peace that only God can provide.
----2. The Consequences of Ignoring God’s Call
“They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them.” — Nehemiah 9:17 (NIV)
Ignoring God’s call leads to spiritual desolation. Just as a father grieves when his children refuse his guidance, so does God grieve when His people harden their hearts. This refusal opens the door to the enemy, allowing darkness and despair to take root.
----3. The Deception of the World
“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” — 2 Corinthians 4:4 (NIV)
The world’s distractions are traps set by the enemy. They blind individuals to God’s truth and entangle them in cycles of misery. Those who follow these deceptions find themselves in bondage, unable to break free without divine intervention.
----4. The Blessing of Responding to God’s Call
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” — Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)
When God’s people respond to His call, they are led by His Spirit and experience His mercy. They are protected from the snares of the enemy and empowered to fulfill His purposes. A willing heart brings transformation, leading to joy, peace, and eternal rewards.
----Summary
God’s call is a precious opportunity for His children to walk in the light of His love and purpose. Ignoring this call results in spiritual ruin, but those who answer find freedom, purpose, and joy. It is through obedience and humility that we remain in His grace.
----Conclusion
Answering God’s call is not only a privilege but a responsibility. As His children, we must stay attuned to His voice and prioritize His will above all else. Let us continually say, “Here I am, Lord, send me,” and live in the light of His mercy and goodness.
