COMING BEFORE GOD By Major. Frank Materu

Key Verse:

“Come near to God and He will come near to you.” – James 4:8

Introduction:

Making it a habit to come before God is essential for every believer.

It is an exercise of discipline and focus that aligns our hearts and minds with Him.

God desires His people to understand the meaning of seeking His presence, listening to His commands, and being attentive to His voice.

Many claim to be His people, yet their focus is elsewhere.

This message challenges us to cultivate the practice of drawing near to God with humility and attentiveness, discovering the abundant blessings that come from His presence.

The Call to Focus on God:

God longs for us to focus our thoughts and hearts on Him.

This involves:

1. Listening to His Voice:

– Paying attention to His commands and instructions.

2. Cultivating Attentiveness

– Avoiding distractions and intentionally seeking Him.

3. Being Present Before Him – Coming with open hearts and minds, ready to receive.

Scripture Reference:

 Isaiah 26:3

"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."

Why We Struggle to Hear God?

Many fail to hear God because they lack focus.

 Distractions:

 – Turning our attention to worldly things rather than God.

 Inattentiveness:

 – Neglecting quiet moments to hear His still, small voice.

 Pride:

 – Relying on our understanding rather than seeking His wisdom.

A Reminder:

God is always near, always speaking, but we must develop the habit of being still and attentive to His presence.

Scripture Reference:

Psalm 46:10

"Be still, and know that I am God."

The Blessings of Seeking God

When we focus our hearts on God, we experience:

1. His Nearness:

– We realize that He is always with us, guiding and comforting us.

2. His Voice:

– Clear direction and understanding of His will for our lives.

3. His Provision:

– Access to His abundant blessings stored up for those who trust in Him.

Scripture Reference:

Matthew 6:33

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

The Power of Humility:

Humility is key to drawing near to God:

Submitting Our Hearts

– Recognizing our dependence on Him.

Surrendering Our Pride.

– Allowing Him to take control of our lives.

Welcoming His Presence.

– Creating space for Him to dwell among us.

When we humble ourselves before God, He draws close to us, pouring out His grace and blessings.

Scripture Reference:

1 Peter 5:6

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time."

Inviting God’s Presence:

God’s presence brings life, guidance, and provision:

1. His Fire

– Purifies our hearts and fuels our spiritual growth.

2. His Leadership

– Directs our steps and aligns us with His will.

3. His Life

– Revitalizes us and equips us to fulfill His purpose.

We must intentionally create an atmosphere that welcomes His presence.

By doing so, we allow His Spirit to move freely among us, transforming our lives.

Scripture Reference:

Exodus 33:14

"The Lord replied, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’"

Conclusion:

Coming before God is not just an act of faith; it is a lifestyle.

We are called to develop a daily habit of seeking Him, focusing our thoughts on Him, and welcoming His presence.

Let us:

 Be Attentive
